I found a hedgehog out in daylight today (actually my dog did). He looks a little rough, so I put him in a box with some leaves and some chopped up dog food to give him a hand. He's out on my patio.
If he eats the food tonight he'll go right back, but I think he's not well. I've looked up some UK rescue sites for some advice, but some local information would be better. Is there a German-speaking fellow animal lover out there who could do some German googling for me? According to an Austrian site (in English) that I found, they are considered endangered species, and many vets will treat them for free. I'm wondering if that's the case here in Munich too. Any assistance/advice much appreciated!

It's a wild animal. Wild animals get sick, wild animals die, it's the way of nature. You should not interfere.

you can also call the vet school since Munich has a good one. Or the zoo. see if they can give you advice or where to take the animal.
Also, if you have cat food trying offering it that instead of dog food or some cut up fresh veggise.

Yeah you cant save that hedgehog. Its natural for them to get run over by cars, thats nature at work (the nerve of some people

).
Its farting up the atmosphere and causing the ozone layer to decay too.
Before I forget it's not the start of the NHL, MLB or the Eurocup but
clobbering time.
I don't think trying to help a hedgehog is that terrible.

Thanks for that link, Berny, that's a great resource! As for the Tierheim, it's a good suggestion, but I don't have a car to get him there. If he's not on his feet by monday I'll take him (her?) to my vet, she's close by. But I think that won't be necessary. I just checked on him and he snuffled back ALL the dog food. So I have a feeling a good feed, some water, and a warm sleep will set him on his way. Food is pretty scarce right now so that's probably his biggest problem. I think it was a tough winter for hibernating critters, the temperatures didn't stay low enough.

Oh! Ok, tomorrow morning I'll take some pictures of him for you :-) He's fast asleep, so I'll leave him be tonight and if he eats some more I'll let him go tomorrow night.

So the little guy is back out in the wild... late last night he perked up, ate the second meal I gave him and drank all the water. He was clearly ready to be on his way so I took him back to where I found him. All's well that ends well. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures, Liutaia, it was quite late and I didn't want to scare him with the flash. But this will give you an idea:

Thanks again for the help.

Oh too cute. You did the right thing Gills. Maybe he did just wake up from hibernating, but, even if he did, he got a nice wake up breakfast. He's probably telling all his little hedgehog friends right now.

Just wait till the hedgehog's hedgehog friends get to hear of it. You'll open your door tomorrow and there'll be ten little hedgehogs with turned up little faces and their hands out.
Please, may I have some more?

And if your neighbors tease you, annoy you or laugh at you then you can always
