Hi,

Although good, it doesn't cover things like transplants. And I'm not sure that it falls under the list of approved German insurers that you are obliged to use it you are employed here.

Best check with their sales rep.

AFAIK, Allianz Worldwide Care does offer plans that meet the German requirements.
But I do not know if their "most basic plan" is sufficient for that. unsure.gif

Allianz is a good company.

As eurovol wrote above: Allianz is a very good insurance company, but one hand it offers a number of different health insurances and whether one or any of them is the right/best choice for you depends on a nnumber of parameters such as age, gender, profession, income/occupational status, pre-existing conditions, time you plan to stay in Germany, kind of coverage you expect from a good insurance and so on...

One size does definetly not fit all in health insurance issues, I am affraid.

I have not enjoyed their services. I have the Prima plan which is underwritten by Allianz and it requires that I submit a 4 page form in order to get reimbursed for any doctor's visit. They also give you the option of having the bill paid directly, but their processing time is extremely slow (my last claim took a month and they ended up messing it up and paying the hospital instead of me and I had to get the money back myself from the hospital). You will be responsible for any late fees. They also can veto any charge just because they feel like it. The print at the top of the policy wording states that any charge they deem to be unreasonable may not be paid. This may just be the Prima plan, but my experiences dealing with Allianz in regards to claims have all been bad ones. Somewhat like pullling teeth. You are better off going with another group, in my opinion.

Allianz is one of the biggest German insurers, the problem is that the competition is so fierce these days that the insurance companies are all battling to save money wherever they can. One of their first lines of attack is to automatically reject claims and wait and see whether you fight back or not. It's not just Allianz, they're all like that nowadays. Compared with ten or fifteen years ago, the service has deteriorated considerably.

This is just one of the nasty, unexpected, side-effects of intelligent, informed, customers voting with their feet and moving from expensive companies to cheaper competitors - unfortunately, good service costs money!

What's the solution, no idea, perhaps understandably if you consider the way the average German's income/wealth has declined in recent years, the first (only?) thing they look at is the price. My only suggestion would be, don't pick the cheapest offer (not just for insurance) without looking very closely at where the savings are being made to fund it.

While, as I wrote above, Allianz is one of the largest insurance companies and still has a good reputation, from the personal experience of my parents, who are insured with Allianz health insurance now for years, mirrors what RMA wrote above: while in the past clients were happy to pay the somewhat higher premiums for Allianz insurances because they knew that claims were settled fast and easy, this is not so anymore... but then Allianz is now just at the same level like most others...

what smoofy writes above, however, sounds more like the plan from ALC and not directly from Allianz Worlwide Care. So far I have never heard complaints about ALC with regards to their claim settlement, this is the first case. You should contact directly Mike Woodiwiss from Spectrum, their German representative, he can certainly help.
