Where to go for a one-day ski trip late season

Drivable from Munich with good snow conditions

After driving through Artic conditions over Easter in Czech Republik, girlfriend and I decided the snow must be good and to go for 1 days skiing on Sunday. Want to drive down Saturday night, sleep there, and ski all day Sunday so no great distances.

So where is easiest to drive to, and has decent altitude becuase the artic freeze seems to be over. Was thinking of Kitzbuhel, or Mayrhofen but have the suspicion Kitzbuhel is a bit low?
Allershausen
The biggest problem with Kitzbühel is it's south facing so it gets the Sun. Sounds nice but if it's warm and sunny the snow gets slushy very quickly. Try the otherside of the mountain, Scheffau, St. Johann. If you want to go a bit higher, I think, try Kaltenbach, in Zillertal. Actually you could go to Hochfügen and there is now, I believe, a lift that connects to Kaltenbach.

I'd recommend Mayrhofen. Did pretty much the same last weekend... drove down Saturday, skiied on Sunday and drove back in the evening. Takes about 1hr 45 to get there/back.

The snow was good. A bit icy in places later in the day...

Hochfügen is a good suggestion, but we there 3 weeks ago. Bit of a pain staying in Fügen and driving to Hochfügen, but might try to find a hotel actually in Hochfügen. Its certainly high enough. Seems my suspicions of Kitzbühel were valid?

You could always sign up to the Munich Ski Club trip. We were going on Sunday to Kirchberg but I believe it's now changed to Söll in the Ski Welt area. Forget driving and just get on the bus and we'll take you there. And it's hassle free. See www.munichskiclub.com for details.

Jonny like the idea but who's going to come around with a crowbar to lever my girlfriend out of bed to get bus at 06:45???

There are loooooads of possibilities... Check out Bergfex for a nicely laid out simple overview, and you can get to 90% of these resorts for a day. Depending on the likely temperature you want to go higher as Allershausen says, but as spring seems to be starting in the city and the temperature there rising the skiing shouldn't be too busy. Favourite tips are those above and Hochfügen, Hochzillertal, Axamer - Lizum, Sölden, St. Anton am Arlberg, Saalbach Hinterglemm although the last three of those are quite a long drive. Acutally I think now Zillertal & Fugen are linked so much easier than what used to be a long slow drive up a steep, narrow mountain road.

Edit: The Ski Club are good value and hassle free (if you can get there on time!)

Looking at the snow depths on Bergfex here (http://www.bergfex.at/austria/schneewerte/?sort=Berg,DESC) it looks like Dachstein or Lech/St. Anton are your best bets. I took my visiting canadian friend to St. Anton last friday during an epic snowfall - took 7 hours go get there (roads blocked due to snow) but it was worth it. I needed my snorkel as the snow was mighty deep.

Snow depths everywhere will be ok, but because of the rising temperatures, I'd pick somewhere with most of the terrain over 1500m. They say it'll be 18 degree's in Munich on Sunday, and could easily be 10 degree's even at 2000m with such a strong Foehn. I'd go with some previous suggestions here and pick a resort in Zillertal.
