Debunking the 2012 solar poles apocalypse

Magnetic axis flip over, end of the world

This morning I received a mildly hysterical email about the end of the world in 2012. NASA was mentioned, solar poles, magnets, flipping of the earth's axis in response, and an all-around end of the earth as we know it. Snopes.com has a bit about the Mayan calendar, but I couldn't find anything about this pole switching business. Could anyone point me in the direction of a reputable place to look?

Didn't the world end already in August 1999, when we had the solar eclipse? Nostradamus said it did. unsure.gif

Here you go... with every sun spot cycle ( i.e. 11 years approximate) the sun switches its magnetic polarity...they are still figuring it out...

Solar Pole switch

The earth does it too...but less often ( once in a 250,000 or 200,000 years)

And damn..we all survive!

Thanks, all. Interesting stuff, btw! I thought it was completely bogus when I first heard about it.
