Hi to all at TT,
Like many before me, I did not realise that I should introduce myself, and just launched onto TT. So I would like to say a big G'day to all, and thanku for the help I have received so far.. I am an Aussie living by Frankfurt (since June 07) and have just recently discovered the wonder that is TT. I am a nurse at home, but my mastering of the german langauge has been put on hold, so am not working as such here. So I hope to meet a few of u soon. And thanks again for all the help.

Hello all,
I'm not new to Frankfurt, but certainly new to this site. I've been here for about 3 years and enjoy it. I've met some nice people here, but would always like to meet more of you (been working too much, what's new...). I'm a 47 male interested in outings/events. I do enjoy the occasional drink night (been to one Friday event organized by Simon), certainly enjoy a nice glass of wine, and the opportunity to meet new people. Looking forward to meeting some of you.
On a completely separate note, I've got some visitors coming soon who are looking to relocate to Frankfurt from Hawaii. One is an avid open-ocean paddler and has asked me if there are any paddling groups or rowing clubs here. I believe there are rowing clubs, but don't know anything about them. Anyone know about such clubs and have a POC. Are there easy to join, particularly for an English-speaking woman? Any info appreciate.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi there,
I am new to this website and new to the country. I am from the UK, here on a language course. I would like the opportunity to meet some people in Frankfurt. If you know of any social events that I could get involved in then please let me know. Or if you have any advice on meeting people in the Frankfurt area then give me a shout. Oh and does anyone know if there is a running club in Frankfurt? Thank you,
Ebzy

Welcome to the forum, Ebzy. As for people "letting you know about social events", that's not quite how this site works. Instead it's up to you to find out about the events. Simply browse the
list of events and sign up for any that take your fancy.

Hi Ebzy and welcome,
The reason you couldn't book is because the sheet has not been updated from the last event yet. See you Wednesday

Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum but have been in Frankfurt for 3 years now. I've made some really nice friends here but I miss being around native English speakers, if only for the wit and humor! I'm not a native English speaker myself, but I have spent enough time in the UK to develop a taste for English humor. I must confess that I've been 3 years here and I still don't get the German jokes!!

Hello Everyone,
My name is Stephanie and I moved to Frankfurt (Kronberg) from the United States about 6 months ago! I consider myself a very outgoing person who thuroughly enjoys life and the new experiences that come along with living abroad including meeting new interesting people from different areas of the world! I'm new to Toytown, but am very interested in meeting people who are equally as interested in learning about the German culture, sights, and the language! I would love to make some English speaking friends since my German isn't 100%! If anyone is ever interested in meeting up for coffee or going to see the sights in Frankfurt please let me know!
Until We Meet,

Hiya!
Hope you don't throw me out from this site for not being a native English speaker..

I'm 22yrs old girl from Finland. I'm moving to Frankfurt (Höchst) next week and I'm very excited about that!
I've lived in England and I speak English fluently (people very often think I'm Canadian..Nothing wrong with that I guess:). Anyway - I'm looking forward to meet new people so if anyone is interested meeting up and changing thoughts I'm up for it!
Thanks,

Hello everyone... just signed up and thought I would introduce myself.
I just moved here 2 months ago from Holland (to where I moved 5.5 years ago from Greece) and I realized I am working too hard to not have a life at all after leaving the office! You easily get carried over working like crazy when you don't know people and can't speak the language. What else about me... I am Greek, 29 y.o and absolutely love meeting new people from different countries with different experiences.
It's nice to see so many people active in organizing events here so I 'll certainly be joining one of those soon

Hello to all,
recently found and joined TT and I'm already a big fan. Sorry that I didn't introduce myself properly before adding my (idiotic) comments to one or the other thread.
To introduce myself; I've spent most of my adult life in Germany & really love life here. Quirky as the place maybe sometimes.
I've been in Deutschland since '93 (this stint), married a local girl 10 years ago & we have a great son.
My main intrestes are: camping, canoeing, fishing & anything outdoors.
Last year I finally done the whole fishing license thing, so anyone in the Frankfurt area fancy joining up sometime to teach some stuborn German fish a lesson or two?
"
Curry Night" sounds brilliant.
Great website.

Hi everyone,
I'm Angela, a 29-year old from Chicago. I came to Frankfurt about 4 weeks ago for a new job, where I'm a Graphic Designer. I'm currently living in a hotel in
Bockenheim, and looking for flats. I'm excited to meet new people here, especially possible travel companions. I'm always up for an inexpensive weekend trip, and hope to explore more in Germany and in the surrounding countries.
By the way, if anyone knows of a flat available, let me know! I'm looking for 2 rooms, built-in kitchen, under $720 warm. Thanks!

Hey all-
Like some on this thread, I've been around FF for a little while, since last August. Anyway, new to TT. Originally from Michigan, but quite enjoying the time I've had here. Mostly like to travel and flyfish, but it's a little difficult here with all the rules and regs...Germany... I know, I got myself into it. Any newcomers should definitely check out the FNDC organized by "action". Good times!

Hello everyone,
I just moved to Frankfurt (directly on the Zeil). I don't know this town and hardly anyone here yet. After getting over the most urgent things (moving into my new apartment, doing all the paper work, understanding what my new job is about, ...) I'm now eager to get my social life moving.
I'm a German who after many years living in foreign countries as an expat (last stays: Bangkok, Jakarta, Geneva) has now returned to Germany, where I still feel a bit foreign. Would be fun linking up to the local expat scene and joining in some activities. I'm a 34 year old woman working in international development cooperation.

Hello Folke and welcome to Toytown!
If you like writing or reading and discsussing you really should attend our
Tuesday night writers Meet Up at Starbucks in Frankfurt ( Große Bockenheimer 50, 7.30 pm).
We are a bunch of people who write different stuff ( book, essays, short stories, blogs) and who like to exchange thoughts and paying 2.50 Euro for a simple coffee

Looking forward to see you around

Hi all,
I am visiting Frankfurt on Friday 24th for the weekend with 3 brilliant yet mad work-mates (unfortunately they have a meeting at the ECB Friday lol) ... it would be great to get some recommendations on what to do / where to go for a day or two of beer induced fun. If there are any organised nights out (especially Friday) then please let me know, we are 4 mad but fun guys !!!
Browsing around on the internet it's sad to see that many websites seem to say that Frankfurt is boring and you may as well avoid it !! Is this really true ?
Anyway a recommendation on where to go to see the Manchester / Chelsea match this Sat would also be appreciated !
Cheers

You can watch the match at Waxys (right near the Deutsche Börse, on Taubenstr.) or in O'Reillys by the
Hbf or any of the Yours bars.
What type of stuff were you wanting to do/see?
There's always the FNDC - organised by action - check out the events section under Frankfurt.

Hi again
Rilana, one of my friends wants to know if the Park Bar on a Sunday night still exists in Wiesbaden ? I have no idea what he's on about but he did spend a while in Germany. Thanks for the footie tip as well Nick.
As for the stuff to do / see, I guess the best description would be some sort of German themed pub crawl (don't worry, we're not yobs)... then disappearing into some form of night club I guess. Our ages span between 27 and early 40's to give you some idea.
As for FNDC, I looked at that earlier but there didn't seem to be many posts yet for this Friday.
Cheers

Apr 21 2008, 3:24 pm
I don't know a Park Bar, does he mean the Park Cafe? I know it's one of the few places where they party on a Sunday night but I've never been (only ever walked past it).
Agree with Nick re O'reilly's but I think Waxys is good for Footie too.
If you want a pub crawl you should head to
Sachsenhausen. Go to one of the traditional places like the "Gemahlte Haus" on Schweizer Strasse first and eat some hearty food and drink some Ebbelwoi and then head over to Alt Sachsenhausen (near Lokalbahnhof) where there are lots of pubs and bars (be warned: it gets a bit crazy sometimes!).
edit: re FNDC - it will, it's only Monday...I haven't seen it fail to happen as yet...actually seems like there's more people going there every week (judging by the thread).

Cheers for your recommendations, i'll keep an eye out on the FNDC for this Friday.

Hi all,
Yes it still says Munich by my name, but I actually am based just outside Frankfurt and return weekends to be with my family. I thought I had better introduce myself. I am British but have been living on and off in the Frankfurt area for many, many years. I only started posting here after moving to a project in Munich, TT's home town.
I normally hang out with the
Frankfurt Ski Club, the
hash house harriers and used to be a
drinkstagger as well when in Frankfurt. In London, I started the Drinkstaggers in exile group, the recovery club for repatriated expats who were missing the joys of Frankfurt.

P.S. For those of you in Frankfurt thinking you know German, you are spoilt. Try living somewhere with a bit of dialect like Munich!

Dear Flying Pen,
thanks for the invite to join the writing group. Sounds like a fun activity. I love reading but I'm not so much into creative writing. I already sit most of the day in front of a computer and write texts (admittedly no creative prose though but more technical stuff). But let me know if you engage in any other activity. I'm up to nearly anything social.

Hi all,
I moved near to Frankfurt an year before due to my job in Eschborn. I am new in the forum as I found it now :-). It is interesting to know that forum is quite active and hopefully I can also participate in one or other way. I am browsing through the forum to find out some interesting activities. Do we have a single link where I can see all of the regular activities around Frankfurt?
I play squash and like to go out, watch movies in original version, read books, talk about socio political topics etc.
Hopefully at last now I can find new friends around.

hi,
I've already been in the Frankfurt area (just to the south) for 4 years but i just came across this forum. (i'm originally from Boston, USA.) i'm so busy with my kids that i don't have much time to look for native English-speaking friends, but i'd really like to find other native English-speaking parents with kids under 3 who want to get together on saturdays to give the kids fun projects, games and other activities to do. I earn a modest income teaching English to kids an do so with lots of fun, games, art, stories etc., but i'm also very professional about it. I'd also like to find a couple of people (native speakers) who might like to teach kids with me, either in schools/kindergartens or in the teaching space i've got set up. You would need some experience working with kids, and a very good handle on English language structure. My husband (who's german) and I are very child-focused right now (show me two parents with kids under 5 who are not!), and we enjoy organizing learning programs for kids (we both do this both professionally as well as just for fun), as well as camping/hiking/cycling/canoeing, gardening and any kind of hands-on creative projects.
please contact me if interested in either of the above possibilities!
all the best, Christine

Hello everyone,
I just moved to Frankfurt due to a new job a couple of weeks ago - so a total newbie. Even though I am German I haven't lived in Germany for nearly 6 years. I studied in the UK and then lived in Stockholm for 2,5 years. Just today I stumbled upon this forum and was all excited as I'd love to meet new people here in town plus I'd hate to loose my English : )
Although at times I tend to work too much I like to enjoy life .. going out for drinks, exploring new restaurants, go to movies, meeting up with friends .. but I also have a keen interest in photography, horse riding, traveling and I try to keep fit by going jogging.
It would be great to finally make new friends!

I'm new in Frankfurt too. My name is Annett and I'm 23. I moved here about 3 months ago. I'm from Germany (Paderborn exactly, dont know if you ever heard of it) but the past three years I've spent most of my time with English speakers. I really miss speaking English on a regular basis. I do English at my new school but thats not quite the same...it's fun though...I learn grammar, never really needed that before

Ok... all good stuff here. I'm planning to move to Frankfurt from India in September this year. Though I've been to Germany as a tourist before, I've not really spent much time in Frankfurt. Any great advice around what are the decent places to stay? My office is in Kronberg. Can I get a decent studio / 1 bedroom apt within 800 Euros. I like to stay in good quality accommodation, but am unsure about what kind of money I should budget for.

Hi,
being German and having worked for 2 years for a German bank in London i will surprisingly return to Frankfurt next week.
My pronounciation is awkward, my grammar is terrible but my English is even worse.
I thought annoying you ("what are you sinking about?") might be cheaper than flying to London over the weekends to keep in touch with non-german culture.

Hello everyone.
I moved to Frankfurt about 2 months ago for work and will be here for the next three years. I moved here from Michigan, but spent a lot of my years growing up in the Southern US (Tennessee and Georgia). I am 26 years old and am looking to meet new people here and go out to have a good time.
I don't know anyone here really, and would definitely be interested in the weekly beer drinking and dining. I love sports, so also am looking to join sports clubs (Baseball, American Football, Basketball, Biking, etc...). I also love to play Golf (going to Ireland this weekend for 5 days to play) so if anyone ever wants to hit the course, let me know.
Looking forward to meeting up.

Well hello y'all pals and buddies. I'm still not in Germany, but I'm going to shift in about a couple of months later. So thought it'd be a good idea to know some of you folks out here, I do hear that Germany can get a bit on one's nerves if you don't speak too much German. I plan to pick some on the way, but I'd love to know the English speakers out there too since I don't trust my own competence.

Hi guys,
My names's Wade and I'm new to the forum. I'm actually living in Tokyo (but from Australia) and will be in Franklfurt passing through to Vienna on a holiday on the nights of the 16th, 17th, 18th and maybe 19th of July. I'm hoping to meet up with some people who can introduce me to Frankfurt over a beer and a meal maybe.
I am also hoping to find out where the independant fashion label selling stores are, if any, as this trip is doubling as a business trip to offer to supply the Fight Club jackets I manufacture to the aforementioned type of stores.
Any mail from people in Frankfurt is welcome, even just to chat over mail. You can reach me on mrpound4@gmail.com. Looking forward to hearing from some of you guys.
