As previously mentioned I propose holding the next ethnic dinner at the Syrian restaurant
Mosaik,
Frankfurter Ring 38. Their website is still under construction but the owner has assured me that the restaurant can easily take 15 - 20 guests eating à la carte.
They have meat, fish and vegetarian dishes and a large array of hors d'oeuvres so there is something for everybody. The restaurant is about 5 minutes walk from Frankfurter Ring/U2. Take the north exit Frankfurter Ring heading east, the one where the elevator goes up to the surface. If you end up in front of the
sex-shop corsette shop, Aldi or BMW you are on the wrong side. Keep heading east past the ADAC office and a motorcycle gear shop, the restaurant is on your right just before the soccer field.
Our possible dates are April 10, 17 or 24 (all Thursdays), so when you add your moniker to the list please post your preferred date as well.

Looks like I won't be able to make it since it's while my gf is in China...and well...I don't spend any $ without her.
Give a report on how the food is though, because we live right at the U-bahn (above Tengelmann), so it's only a 5 minute walk over there...and we've been meaning to go.

Here's another possibility for a future ethnic dinner
Eclipse Israeli restaurant. Came across it in the "employment offered" section of TT - they are obviously just opening and looking for staff.

Reminder, this is next week and there are still a couple of seats available.
There aren't many pre-drinky places around except maybe Bogart's at Knorrstrasse 45, between Keferloherstrasse and
Frankfurter Ring or the
Dartnest just south of Frankfurter Ring/Knorrstrasse.

Thanks to the small yet brave group who appeared. I had something like samosas, just filled with sheep cheese and onion seed, and lamb kebab. The lamb was delicious: marinated, roasted on an open fire (I think) and wonderfully tender, the samosa-thingies a perfect starter.
Sign of quality: There was a table of Syrian habitués having their supper.
Definitely a restaurant worth returning to, not pretentious or over-orientified, and the waiter speaks very good English (seems to be a criterium here).
P.S. Scogs found his temporary teeth, they were in a different coat pocket altogether.

This was a good idea, especially as I'd never think of going to this part of town otherwise. The food was rather good, especially the starters.
It's easy to be picky, but I did find that the lamb didn't taste very lamby, although it was tender enough. I guess that's par for the course in Germany.
The baklava could have been a bit more honeyey and all. Nice sausage rolls.
I did eat a hell of a lot, which is generally a good sign. A pleasant atmosphere in the place too, just a little more variation in the muzak would have been appreciated.

Yes, an excellent evening. I had a share of the mixed starters. There were a lot there. Some of the people I was sharing with didn't even bother to have a main course. I did, and had the Lamm Speisen* (Lamb Kebabs, which I found tasty enough). Jeeves complained about the lamb, but maybe I have been away from home so long that my critical senses were dulled.
Well done and thanks Sara for organising the evening!

A very enjoyable evening, good food, good atmosphere, and good company. There was something very down-to-earth and homely about the place. It didn't matter that the group wasn't too large - 10 people is a good number for a cozy gathering. Thanks Sara for organising it!
Dunno if my mind was playing tricks on me, but I seem to recall that someone (Scogs?), in conversation, mentioned Simon & Garfunkel in passing, and then all of a sudden they were playing all the old Simon & Garfunkel hits. I wondered if the waiter had picked up on our conversation, and obligingly put S&G on, thinking that was what we wanted to hear?

S&G were lying on the table on the way to the restrooms. Along with other pro-USA CDs whose titles escape me at the moment.

Naaaaah, it was me, I asked the waiter to change the CD because it was about the 3rd time the CD playing Simon and Garth had looped, and people (probably only me) were on the verge of sucide.
Anyway the Arabic food was a pleasant change from curry I normally have
