Life in the Meerbush area of Düsseldorf

Info, opinions, and advice for moving there
Ratna
Hi

We are moving to Düsseldorf in a month after a 10 month stay in Munich. Meerbush is possibly where we are looking to rent a place to live. Could somebody suggest how the area is and give us some suggestions. We have a 2.5 yr boy, who would need to go into a kinderbetreung or a kindergarten soon.

Thanks in advance

Meerbusch is a great town to live in. The only drawback is if you're sensitive to airplane noise. The plus points of Meerbusch, depending on what district you are interested in, are there are plenty of supermarkets, it's like living in a small town with big city possibilities (Büderich is 7 min from downtown Düsseldorf), and there are plenty of kindergartens. We have been much happier since moving to Meerbusch.

I live in Meerbusch too. There are lots of Kindergartens here... including multi-lingual ones if you want. There are also good primary schools and good transport links to central Düsseldorf.

Büderich has good shops and a market twice a week.

There are good sports facilities, lots of green space where you can walk and cycle. It's close enough to the river for that to be a good bike trip with the kids.

As tirico says, the planes are a potential problem - but it depends where you live. Some parts of Meerbusch aren't affected much - whereas others are right under the flightpath. (Don't let it put you off though. You get used to it pretty quickly.)
Ratna
Hey thank you guys. Will keep in mind the flight path noise. Would you recommend any english kindergaretn?

Many Thanks

I'm aware of a couple:

St. James's and Noah's Ark.

And there's also one on the Necklenbroicher Strasse near the bakery (not the Montessori Haus or the Kreuzer Hof or the one opposite the bakery - blimey... it's Kindergarten-City in Meerbusch!) - but I don't know what it's called and couldn't find it online just now. But there's definitely an English speaking/International one down there too.

I can second the St. James kindergarten. It's quite pricey though. I believe that's the only across from the bakery that CartoonCat mentioned you can forget. It's a German kindergarten that only has International in the name. Good luck.
Ratna
Hi, thank you. I looked at St.James and a couple others. They are very expensive indeed. I am really stressed out with this hunt for the right nursery place. There are so few englishnurseries around, ridiculously expensive and you have to put up with this scarcity.

I wonder how the german system works with childcare?

This is the other international kindergarten - it's also on the Necklenbroicher Strasse - though the address on the website is Düsseldorf - where the main one is.
