Cafe Vivet on Spitalerstraße - Hamburg

Worst customer service ever
Mauddib
So I was in Hamburg this weekend and was at a restaurant with the single worst service I have ever had in my life. Only place I have ever gotten up and walked out of.

Alas I have forgotten their name so I cant bad mouth them and / or write to them. All I can remember is that it was pretty central and had, I think, a four letter word as it name like RIMA or something.

A lot of the things on the menu were in english titles but with german descriptions, so I for example ordered the RIMA burger.

The layout was rectangular with a long bar / counter area on one side of the rectangle and the seating area and bar area seperated by a long waist high wall. There was lighting that faded in and out different colors from holes in the roof, giving the effect of the whole room fading into a yellow color and then orange and so on.

Also there was 4 projectors well hidden in the wall/roof which projected four televisions onto the flat wall opposite. So the whole wall along the long side of the rectangle that was opposite the bar was a series of large screen TVs.

From these rather vauge descriptions has anyone any idea what Im talking about smile.gif Im pretty sure Ill know it when i hear the proper name.

Do you remember the area, part of town?

From the description of the interior it sounds like it could be Cafe Vivet on Spitalerstrasse... was it on the main shopping street?

Service is usually pretty friendly in there though so I would be suprised.

Yes, despite not being 4 letters as in my memory I think that might in fact be the one.

There was a slightly camp guy with white hair of the albino white kind ordering the waitresses there also. By ordering I mean he was screaming shrilly accross the restaurant at them, which was pretty unpleasant to start with.

This was only the first sign of something amiss though. Having ordered our food we waited... the two tables on either side of us called for the bill... got it... left... new people came... ordered... got some food... ate it... paid... left... and still our order was nowhere to be seen.

No attempts to catch the waitresses' eye worked.

Eventually 50 minutes after the order was placed i got a waitress and told her I wasnt happy with this, politely, and she got angry at US. So I asked for the bill and paid for the drinks which had come, but not the food obviously, and walked out. Not a word of excuse, apology, explanation or anything off anyone including our waitress.

Never walked out of a place before, its hard to make me even consider it, but this was just plain awful. Thanks for the name as I wanted to write to the owner about it and the name dropped right out of my head.

Crikey, I'd never wait 50 minutes for food and I'd sure as hell demand an explanation and an apology from the manager before leaving.

madgibson had to wait 90 minutes for her food last friday at the turkish resturant she never got an explanation but as a sign of apology was allowed to have cocktails at happy hour price

The description of the head waiter confirms that it was the Vivet!!

He is VERY camp but usually a pleasant guy. We go in there now and then, more for coffee or a beer, I've never eaten in there before (probably a wise choice!).

Sounds like you might have caught them on a bad day, they are usually really chilled and friendly there. Saying that though I wouldn't wait 50 minutes either so I don't blame you for leaving.
