What Munich hotels would anyone recommend?

I've a few friends coming to visit and they don't particularly want to sleep on the floor of my place, nor do they really want to pay too much for accommodation , along with it being centrally located. I'm not asking too much now am I?

cheers,
F.

Try the: HRS - Hotel Reservation System
Ravski
Or try Hostel World

It's amazing what deals you get including private rooms.

I know quite a few people who used it.

Munich Hotels list

Many hotels listed with price in USD$ and links to each.

I have never stayed in any Munich hotels besides Hotel an der Oper, which was just ok. Tiny room and a big breakfast.

Some relatives have stayed in Pension Hungaria (which is a B&B) at Stiglmaierplatz. Some friends have stayed at the Jugendherberge (youth hostel) on Wendl-Dietrich-Strasse at Rotkreuzplatz. Depends what they're looking for.

You can only book 3 days ahead but they always have rooms available at a good price except during Oktoberfest.

expedia.de also do hotels.

Hotel Aurbacher is opposite my apartment in Haidhausen - Au, near Rosenheimer Platz. Especially the weekend prices are reasonable.

My friends stayed in Hotel Europa and they loved it.

Consider the (new) Novotel München City, in Haidhausen. Best rates through the owning company's website: www.accor.com. They are also in Perlach, Messe, Friesing Airport. Prices roughly in the 50-70 range.

Pension Steinberg in Schwabing is one I could recommend. It's in Ohmstr. nice and cosy, family run B&B.
When you search for Pension or hotels try using the www.gelbeseiten.de they have a great search engine that allows you to search for hotels etc... within 500m to 50Km of your location. If you need help with the German you can give me a shout.

For those of you who need to put up guests in East Munich, I recommend the Alter Wirt Ramersdorf. It's got old-world charm (500 years old, they claim), but the guest rooms are only about 3 years old. There's a nice Bavarian restaurant and beer garden in summer. It's on two bus lines (155, 55) that get you to Ostbahnhof in 6 minutes, or about a 5-minute walk to the U2 stop at Karl Preis Platz, and they have free parking. The price is right, too: 76 Euro for an ensuite double room normally, or 91 Euro during Oktoberfest or big trade fairs. I book my overflow guests in there, and they have always been quite happy.

They have an English language website, but you should be prepared to speak German if you actually call. I've never met anyone on staff who speaks English.
Marty
Use hotel.de. Sometimes they are even cheaper than HRS.
Marty
Not as expensive as Kempinski (but close):

Bayerpost
or
Le Meridien

Both are close to the Oktoberfest fairgrounds AND central (Hbf).

Hotel Moosbichl or something like that in Moosach is right across the street from the S-Bahn and hopefully soon the straßenbahn will have the repairs finished and go all the way out there too. Very nice and very nicely priced.
Chewy, there is a nice little hotel just around the corner heading towards the Ubahn in Freimann. Many BMW guests stay there and also seems to be well priced and I do believe they have ground floor rooms with a restaurant next door and a pub across the street.

Hotel-Pension Am Markt,
Heiliggestraße 6, Munich

Right next to Marienplatz
Musikus
After arriving a year ago I stayed in two pensions for a few days each and was pleased with each.

Am Siegestor, just off Ludwigstrasse, across the street from the art academy, very convenient to U3/U6. There's a lift, and very nice proprietress. This cost around EUR 35-40 for a single, as I recall. Tel 39 95 50

Pension Geiger, Steinheilstr. 1, half a block from the Technische Uni -- a tiny room sans bath cost me only EUR 25 a night. No lift, so be prepared to schlepp luggage. None cheaper near the inner city, I think. 3 blocks to the Theresienstrasse U1/U2 station. Tel 52 15 56

Another intriguing looking pension (from the data--I never stayed there) is Fuerst, a block from Odeonsplatz, from where you could walk downtown easily. www.hotelfuerst.de

There's a lovely overview chart of hotels and pensions with prices in the monthly Muenchen im Januar (etc). At least there was in 2004 (I left Muenchen last summer). Or try:

for cheap good beds try- EasyPalace its a hostel/hotel, by Goethepl, and really close to the Ofest grounds... they have singles, doubles and 6 er rooms all with private baths... starting at 16.90 perperson.

HRS is an excellent German based search and reservation system for hotels in Germany and beyond, with a lot of detail on each hotel, it's location and facilities. Their prices are often the best to be found.

If money is less of an issue avoid the Sheraton/Marriott/etc., chains as they usually lack character, despite their international aspect.

Look at a few selections, then ask back here for comments before you make the reservation.

I'm sure the combination of you, your Grandma and your boyfriend will make for an interesting trip experience...

If you want something with character, the Laimer Hof might be a good bet. I haven't actually stayed there myself, but when planning a meeting with international guests at my office, the secretary recommended it as very nice amd good value for the money. (for the meeting we ultimately decided to go with the Arabella Sheraton Westpark, where we have a pretty reasonable corporate rate -- NOT much character but close to the office, good breakfast, friendly staff, and reasonably nice rooms). Note that you will need to take public transportation to get to Marientplatz etc. -- however I think the hotel is within walking distance of schloss nymphenburg, which you'll probably also want to visit...

One colleague who came in to meet with me and then stayed over the weekend switched over to the Kings Hotel downtown for the weekend (the 3-star one), its around the corner from the main train station so within walking distance of Marienplatz, etc. She was quite pleased with it and stayed there again with her mother when she came in for the bigger meeting...I think they may only be really cheap on the weekend though, and not sure how much "character" it has...

Good luck!

Hey, i just checked out the websites on muenchen.de

they offer private rooms, and the agency gets 25% of the rental rate as commission.

I've got a flat in Schwabing for 3 people during Oktoberfest for € 65 per night... for all 3 people, total.

And for up to €5 each you can arrange breakfast, too.

not bad!

My parents are coming from the 3rd to the 7th June and want to stay a couple of nights in a hotel before coming to stay in my flat, but they want close proximity to the centre and a swimming pool. Any ideas? Have googled it but they are all too expensive. If anyone knows of a nice little guest house (i can sacrafice the swimming pool) it would be really helpful... smile.gif

Actually, if you ask around, you may find the big hotels aren't sooo expensive if you stay over the weekend. Munich hotel prices are normally higher during the week, when there are conventions and trade fairs in town, so they charge a higher business rate. On the weekend, the price drops.

Try the Holiday Inn on Leopoldstr. Not to far from town and a small but nice pool. Just warn them that the saunas are co-ed and nude!

We have some friends coming for the weekend with 2 young children and I was wondering if someone can recommend a reasonably price hotel in the city. I looked at Etap but a max of 3 people so that excludes them.
Ibis is good but too far out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in Advance

Check Easyjet's suggestions out (Octopus travel?). I think Pension am Siegestor is supposed to be OK and quite cheap though...

Leave until 3 days to go and then book here:

(p.s. Ignore that fool Jimbo - he lives in London)

we had some camera men staying over, we paid 81 EUR with breakfast for IBIS hotel in dachauer str... it is a 5mins walk away from the central station
perdido
I have used rates to go brfore here and in the U.S. You can find some good deals across the board when it comes to rating preferences. Although I always look what they have to offer hotel wise then check alternate web sites for reveiws on them. Good luck, although please keep in mind city center is not the cheapest area of town.
NOFXmike
Should be able to find a ton of decent hotels for under 80 Euros near the main trainstation. If you can't, you got issues...hotel Monaco and Hotel Elefant are the first I'd think of, but there are literally at least 30 choices within a 5 min walk.

QUOTE
it is a 5mins walk away from the central station

probably another 10 to the city centre
NOFXmike
...which is about as close as you'll get for a decent price, boomtown_rat. a 10 min walk is DAMN close, imo
planetmoni
10 mins and your passing Stachus and Kaufingerstrasse, there are churches etc to see... not that bad
boomtown_rat
just wanted to let the person know some timings. I agree a nice 10-15 min stroll is fine
Topsy
my brother stayed in Elefant once, it was quite nice - alright, central, decent price and everything
Panama
If you want something really inexpensive and don't mind staying in a hoste, then maybe you could try
Meininger Hostel. Single rooms for 55 euro.
seb
check out this thread as well for some aparthotel places. I posted here in past about some Deutsche Post places and others mentioned. Under 80EUR as well and might be cool to have own cooking facilities etc
OhFFS
It might be worth asking the company if they will spring for a hotel for the extra days as well, as it might reduce the airfare. Strange but true. Apparently airlines assume that if you stay over some part of the weekend that you aren't a business traveller and those are the people they like to fleece (because companies have more money, I suppose). It'd be worth at least looking at price quotes online and weighing it up.

Wombats Hostel...

Very very cheap and clean!

25 € ISH!

My grandma is coming for a week in the middle of October and I need to find some accommodation for her.

I just want to put her in a comfortable hotel that is close to public transport and has a lift.

I live in Haidhausen so thought Hotel Rosenheim Stadt would be perfect, but unfortunately they are booked out.

Haidhausen area would be best, but if not then anywhere near the city centre would also work.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Little Britain
so I'll be down in Munich again on sunday afternoon for a day of client meetings in Munich all day monday. I'll be staying in a hotel overnight on sunday.

Whenever I've been down for work, I've often ended up booking a pretty average hotel near Hbf, although I have stayed in Le Meridien (very nice), the Innside in Schwabing and also the Holiday Inn on Leopoldstrasse on occasion.

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel either near Hbf/Marienplatz or in Haidhausen which is also fairly reasonable price wise?
Looking at around 75 EUR a night max, can maybe stretch to 100 EUR for this at necessary.

Just interested to hear what you Münchners would recommend from personal experience etc.

Will be down in Munich in Feb for longer so will finally be able to make it along to the Curry Night again and also a proper munich TT night out! smile.gif

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel that is located near the city center for around 100€-200€ per room per night? Thanks.

If your budget is up to 200 € per night, my guess is that it buys you a room at just about every hotel in Munich (possibly excluding some of the top-end 5-star ones)...
MissingMunich
We've stayed at the Hotel Preysing and The Platzl Hotel . . . . depending on how close we wanted to be to Marienplatz. I loved both hotels, the Preysing is small, and quaint . . . . LOVED the huge open windows! Also - the Platzl now has AC - last time I was at the Preysing they didn't. This is something to keep in mind for summer trips.

Good luck!

I am coming over to Munich at the end of this month and have been looking at hotels. I want somewhere central (ie walking distance to railway station and city centre) but cheap
Been looking at the Germania. There are mixed reviews on it but I am seeing more positive than negative. Is there any reason I shouldnt book this hotel or is there a better area to be in etc? Any advice would be great

Thanks

Gimme any suggestions you got, I'm very new to Germany. I live in a village near Landsberg am Lech but my mate is coming over from England for a few days and it's not really possible to stay with the family.
