Somehow I think you might seem to know what the responses are.
I am from Wales and although I was brought up speaking Welsh at school I no longer use it on a daily basis. As you have probably discovered Welsh people are not the greatest travellers and native Welsh speakers even less so. All the true Welsh speakers that I know live in Wales still and I have never met a Welsh
speaker outside of Wales. The language has that kind of culture behind it and I think the mentality of Welsh speakers is that it is our (their) language and they just wouldn't understand why someone who maybe has a passion for languages would want to learn to speak Welsh. It is communication for Welsh people only!
If there are any 'native' Welsh speakers here then I imagine they would probably be less inclined to speak Welsh even if they could here.
I would say the best thing to do would be to go to North Wales but even then I am not sure what responses you would get from Welsh speakers there - they are not even keen on responding in Welsh to people from South Wales!
Good luck with the lessons anyway and if a meetup does happen I might be inclined to pop by just to test how much Welsh I can still speak
