Hey everyone,
Our new website is now online:
Wayfarers Munich. This is a pretty basic one launched to make the organisation a bit easier and to keep the communication between our fellow hikers ongoing. There's also a facebook group 'Munich International Hikers' where you can find additional photos and maybe videos - due to the limited webspace at our homepage. In future the hikes will be announced on Toytown as usual but you'll find additional info at the homepage.
Happy Easter!

Hey hey,
As some of you already know I'm planning to do a last hut trip this year on the second October weekend (11./12.).
I was thinking about the Rofan Mountains east to the Achensee in Austria. But not definitely sure.
Be prepared for an early start on Saturday morning. The hike level will be moderate.
The overall weather trend: it's getting warmer next week. Sun and cloud mix.
Let me know by Sunday in case you want to join. I'll call the hut to reserve places.
Have fun,
Holger

Short notice I know but read this: Weekend trip to the Rofan Mountains
On Saturday we would take a train at 7.42am to Rosenheim (platform 5) and after several changes we will arrive in Kramsach in Austria. From Kufstein to that village we have to pay extra because Bayernticket is not valid. And it takes 2h 50min - I know, it's a pain in the arse but unless we find cars....
From Kramsach it's around 2.5h to the hut (1600m) were we could leave our stuff and hike via the Vorderes Sonnenwendjoch (2224m) to the Rofanspitze (2259m) and back to the hut.
The first day will be 17km and 1700m in ascent.
On Sunday we'll head towards the Roßkopf (2246m) via the Krahnsattel and further to Hochiss (2299m) the highest point in the Rofan. Then depending on the time we either can go directly to the village of Buchau or make a stop at the Erfurter Hütte and head on to Maurach. We have to catch a bus back to tegernsee at around 5pm - which is possible. Again back to Munich it's a whole 3h.
The ascent this day is around 900m, the distance around 17km depending which route we take.
I forgot to ask about the cost for the stay at the hut, but usually it's around 9/18 Euro for DAV-members/non-members.
The weather is going to be perfect. Sun all over the place. Still it's a bit colder at that height than in Munich. There probably will be still snow laying on the mountains so be prepared - ankle-high boots are a must anyway on these kind of hikes. Gaiters might help. I'll call the hut on Friday regarding the conditions.
Don't forget the sleeping bag for the hut.
And again enough food and drinks. They're closing this weekend so they might run out of beer
There are some bits on the track where you shouldn't be afraid of heights. Not tricky though. So keep this in mind.
LET ME KNOW BY FRIDAY EARLY AFTERNOON IF YOU WANT TO JOIN! We're 8 at the moment.

Hey!
I would love to come but unfortunately all my walking gear is still in England...
Although i do need to buy myself some new stuff anyway - at least that's what I've convinced myself of anyway.
Do you know of a good outdoor shop where I can get a decent pair of boots, and a cheapo rucksack (have plenty good ones back in England) within the next day or two obviously???
Also am I right in thinking the hut does dinner? As I'm normally too lazy to cook :-)
I'm a little out of practice after 3 weeks of oktoberfest but sounds like it's gunna be awesome!
Let me know.
Cheers Andy.

Sport Fundgrube at the Motorama at
Rosenheimerplatz has what you'll need, and cheap.

@Wardy: try a quick search:
Hiking and bushwalking stores
I recommend Outdoor Schuhe, Kapuzinerplatz 1
http://www.outdoor-schuhe-muenchen.de/
Be sure to give the boots a good test before buying as you'll have a whole week-end to regret any hasty purchase.

Thanks for the advice but don't worry I'm ruthless when it comes to buying boots...

Right , i know that this is short notice and that a lot of the regulars will be on the hut trip , but there will be a moderate hike to Hochplatte in the Chiemgau alpen tomorrow .
The hike itself is fairly easy , but there is a height difference of 1040 m , which means that it will be quite steep and that you will need to be fairly fit , therefore i will class it as a moderate hike . There are a couple of huts on the way , so we will be able to stop for refreshments .
The meeting place will be in front of the International press shop , platform 23 . Munich train station at 09.20 .
We will be back in Munich by 20.17 at the latest .
The weather is going to be perfect tomorrow , so if you fancy enjoying the mountain air , come along .

It's been a long time since the last pub event so here's the details for the next one:
Date: Thursday, Oct 23rd
Location:
Ysenegger, Ysenburger Straße 3
Time: 8.30pm
How to get there: U1, Tram 12 - Rotkreuzplatz
I's gonna be cold so no beer garden this time.
Let me know if you come I might reserve a table in case it's a big group.
On Sunday there'll be another hike. Moderate one. Haven't thought about it yet. Weather might be ok but cold (10°C in Munich).

Buu, I am not in Munich on Thursday...

There'll be a change of location because I just found out that
Ysenegger has established a daily smoker's club from 9pm. I don't really fancy getting cancer that way - as long as I can avoid it.
New details tomorrow.

Hi,
I haven't done any hiking for a couple of years, will the Sunday one be a bit too tough for my first one back at it?
Thanks

I'd say yes; I've done this walk on a couple of occasions and it's tough. You'll also need a good head for heights as it's exposed in places, and since the clocks go back that morning, they'll have to keep up a pretty fast pace to get back before nightfall.
This is a guide for "normal" walkers to interpret Wayfarer hike descriptions:
"Easy" = moderate
"Moderate" = strenuous
"Difficult" = super-human
