Running a bed and breakfast business in Germany

Info, experiences, and advice

Does anyone know of any useful German books or publications which give general advice about setting up a B&B business in Germany, or running a Ferienwohnung, or even just letting a room to tourists? Obviously a lot is common business sense, but reading a UK based book made me consider all sorts of health and safety regulations and details that I had not automatically thought about. And I'm sure there are regulations a-plenty to meet here!!

Or if you've done it yourself it would be interesting to learn from your experiences.

Um, if no-one has any direct experience of this, any idea which would be the appropriate Amt to go to for info, particularly on health and safety regulations for a small concern? I've looked right the way through Amazon.de for books, but can only find books on running hotels and restaurants, aimed at readers who are learning the hotel trade.

Some information in german from the IHK (Industrie- und Handelskammer). It would probably be the best to contact your local IHK to ask, what other help they can offer. It seems you need to visit one of their courses (Gaststaettenunterichtung) anyway. These courses are also offered in english I think. But maybe you dont need all that for a small B&B. Better ask that first.

Another potential source of information would be the BHG (BAYERISCHER HOTEL- UND GASTSTÄTTENVERBAND e.V.) or if you are not in bavaria then the relevant local association. They offer publications and consulting for startups. Or contact the people who organize the local tourism - maybe they have some ideas.

Thanks very much for the pointers, Freising.
