English/German translation of military weaponry

Help with the terms for various weapons and such
Fulbright
Hi guys!

I have a really nasty translation, all about import and export control of "defense articles". Thing is, it goes on to mention "other articles" so I would like the German translation to be similar.
Why can't these guys call a spade a spade and say "weapons and other military apparatus"?
I was thinking of using "militärisches Gerät" but then the "other articles" would be "Handelswaren", suggesting that the weapons etc. are not being dealt with, just shipped around the world for US use only.

Thank you!

I am not sure if I understand your problem correctly, but here are a few legal phrases about arms control:

Exportkontrolle von Kriegswaffen, sonstigen Rüstungs- und Gütern mit doppeltem Verwendungszweck
Export von Kriegswaffen und sonstigen Rüstungsgütern

If this "other articles" fall under export control they could be
- sonstige Rüstungsgüter
- Güter mit doppeltem Verwendungszweck
- andere/sonstige Güter/Waren zur militärischen Verwendung (thats just a term I would use)

Could it be that the english terms refer to some american or international industrial classification system like SIC or ISIC. Then you would only have to find the german equivalent or translation.

Rüstungsgüter, I like that one! My brain has been turning to mush, I am on page 14 of 18 of a summary written by at least four different lawyers, two of whom adhere to such a comingled style of legaleez and English that I have to read each sentence three times before getting down to the meaning.

My German co-worker is proof-reading the German text now and complaining loudly about the English original. Moral: If you know your text will be translated keep it as clear and precise as possible, don't go for the fancy syntax and multiple subordinate clauses.
