Does anyone on here know of a cricket team in Munich?
I'm quite a keen but useless amateur and would like to keep playing whilst in Munich.

hughstol - there are 8 clubs in and around Munich. We're a very social club and play a lot of cricket - last year over 30. Maybe 10 of those are in the League and cup. So most games are friendly's and everyone who wants to play gets a game. We also tour every year.
As Showem said, check out our website and give Mark a call when you get here. His number's available on the website too.
Oh and bring your whites and any equipment. The club has equipment, but you can't buy anything here.

Hi,
I have just been reading that cricket is played in Munich (see:
Toytown Cricket) and was wondering what sort of standard this is.
I was very surprised to even see that cricket was played but shocked to see that there is actually a league. I am looking to move to Munich ASAP and would love to continue playing cricket whilst I am there.

One more thing and I hope this is OK (I could not find anything saying I could not advertise directly - sorry if I missed it!)
I read that you are having trouble buying cricket equipment
I have recently set up a cricket store on eBay (
Cricket Outlet ) and have a small store back in UK that retails cricket equipment. The ebay store is pretty empty at the moment as no one needs anything out of season

but this will chnage when indoor nets and the new season start. Being an ex-county 2nd XI cricketer I have a number of friends (ex players or coming to end of career and now repping for a living) who either work for or actually manufacture cricket equipment and get some bargains off them which I pass on to local clubs
If anyone needs anything I will post to Munich and charge nothing for the postage for readers of the Toytown Munich forum (please quote this when odering to ensure no postage charge). Just let me know (via PM or eMail is best probably) what you need or for a price list and I will email this to you

Hi Muttlee...
The cricket in Munich is pretty competitive, but it is nowhere near first-class standard.
Players of all abilities play here and we have had all levels from ex first-class cricketers to guys who have never played before in our club. The league and cup seasons are both quite short, but this is done deliberately to ensure that more friendlies can be arranged and everyone can have a game.
Obviously we want to win the league games, so the selection for that is on merit, and this is where you'll find the most competitive games.
We also tour a lot and are looking at going on a few tours again next year - which are all a lot of fun.
We always look for new players and it's good to get some better players joining...
Thanks also for the offer on equipment. We'll definitely look into that.
Cheers,
H

That sounds good and if all goes well and I manage to get the work I want in Bavaria then I will certainly join up for a game.
I am not of a first class standard any more that is for certain but am the skipper of a club playing some pretty competitive cricket week in week out in the Cheshire County league so should be able to hold my own and make the odd contribution if needed.
And if it does not go as planned then maybe I can get a team over for a friendly against you. Any excuse to visit Munich!
As I said about the equipment there is very little on the web site but I am developing a new site called
Cricket Outlet that will contain pretty much everything I can get hold of. I will put that live around March next year just ready for the new season but should any body want anything in the meantime just get in touch. I am over again in December too! Will be keeping the prices will be keen and as i say free deliver to users of this site!

Actually, I'm pretty sure the MCC plays the occasional indoor game, if that's what you mean.

Tegernsee train in winter - but they're German schoolkids and they train in their school gym.
Apart from them, most sport-halls are reluctant to allow cricket because they think it will be damaged (Germans don't understand the sport). There is usually at least one indoor tournament in Munich in about Feb and sometimes one at Passau. Tegernsee have also hosted them in the past.
Just wait till summer...
