Disappearance of the hard disk icon on a Mac

my HD icon and folder has dissappeared fom my desktop, I can find it and open it but cannot get it back on the desktop, any ideas

hmm, I'll check tonight when I'm home. click around under the finder menu, then "preferences"

tried all prefs nothing

There are plenty of Google search results for this problem. Have you tried those?

Everything is working fine otherwise? Did you perhaps try and rename your hard-drive? In Disk Utility, is it mounting correctly?
