Registering a change of address via post or fax

How to avoid going to the office in person

Hi everyone! We just moved to a new apartment and were told by the Einwohnermeldeamt upon getting our initial Anmeldebestätigung that we would have to notify them if we changed address. I wasn't sure if you could just email them, but probably not as I didn't receive a response of any kind. I have heard that some people can just fax in their papers to update their address. Has anyone tried this? What did you have to send exactly? Thanks in advance for the advice.

is it so difficult just to go to your local Amt?

Not for me, but for a friend who can't move around very easily at the moment. Don't suppose you would know the answer to this, but do you think they would let me bring his information in and update it for him?

When I moved I downloaded and filled out the required form and posted it to them.

I never got a reply and didn't know whether my new address had been successfully registered until I received my new Lohnsteuerkarte about 5 months later.

Hey everyone! So I went ahead and emailed them and guess what? They sent me my new registration papers in just a few days. Go Kreuzberg!! All they needed to know was:
-full name
-old address
-new address
-what floor the new apt. is on
-the manager / company you are renting from
-zipcode
Here's the email address in case anyone else wants to give it a shot: poststelle@labo.verwalt-berlin.de
