Monthly 10-pin bowling meet-up proposed

Hi guys and gals from the bowling interest group,

after the great time had by the occasional bowlers (average age let's say 34, which is roughly 50% of the average score, considering that two of the group were well under age) we discussed the possiblity of a monthly meet-up and are counting on you guys and gals to jump at the opportunity. I spoke to the manager of the bowling alley who informed me that Sunday late afternoon is an advantageous time to book a lane or so.

If you are interested in meeting up at Olympia Bowling once a month, preferably on a Sunday afternoon/evening, please post here. Your offspring are welcome as well providing we don't stay well beyond their bedtime and they can propel a 8-ball more or less reliably (they have flexible gutters) down a bowling lane.

Time wise what is 'late afternoon' though. I can imagine bringing the boys along but that would require a 'cheating' lane. What age can they start playing realistically? Matti's nearly 5 now and regulalrly beating me on Wii Bowling so probably needs to be taught a leason.

I'd need to be away around 6 though, I'm guessing this is too early?

Pick a weekend when I don't have the boys and it's not an issue.

I'm pretty sure Olympia has lanes that have automatic bumpers that can be set. Most alleys do these days. Depending on who's bowling, the bumpers come up. They are not up all the time. Not that any of the adults would send their balls into the gutter, right?

We three would be interested in this (two adults for regular bowling plus one 6yo in for duck bowling). Last time I was at Olympia bowl, I bowled 9 strikes in a row and everybody was looking at me and whispering. That was pretty cool. Man I wanted that perfect game, but it wasn't to be. Don't worry, breaking 200 would normally be a great day for me. However, there must be beer frames! Usually the 3rd and 7th. In fact, a family bowl day to see if the kids are up to it could be in order for the upcoming weekend. Is the place going to be open on Friday or Monday?

My gf and I would be interested. Sunday's would be great, time doesn't matter that much...

Yeah we'd be interested too and finishing around 6 would be a good time for the kids.

On second thought, later is better...since there'd be less kids?

Yeah, that is what I am afraid of too. It might be something to have the "family hour" early and the adult hour following on.

Aww c´mon guys, having kids around is fun! If we have enough little ones we can give them a "cheating" lane and have one with gutters for the adults. Sundays we usually have the TT dog walking meetup, but if we started at four the dog walkers could still make the bowling, and those who need to leave by six get two hours of bowling in. Nothing says the adults can´t stay later...

Depends on the kids, I almost whapped the one on the lane next to ours last time (then again, the grownups in that crowd were no better).
I can see this turning into "shifts" - two groups blending together at changeover time. Could actually be fun.

Sounds like good fun! Is it easy to get there by public transport?

Sounds like they have bumper lanes but do they also have one of those things where the kids put the ball on a chute and push it for the really little ones?

My smallest will cry for about 10 minutes if he loses though. His Papa has been known to do the same as well though.

Didn't see that. But christopher managed to thunk the ball onto the lane for a couple of really good frames, and one strike I think. There are a few dents at the start of lane 7

Tobi is a good babysitter.

So basically we have two groups, those without and those with kids. To make things easier on all parties I am inclined to keep these groups separate so non-bekidded bowlers don't have to wait while their bekidded counterparts are parenting on the lane next door.

If you are in the wrong group please contact me to be moved. Are the kidless up to a session this Sunday after 6pm? Seeing as Easter vacation started today the kidded may be able to take advantage of the weekday lull and get some practice in, providing they have time off work or are homemakers.
We can always arrange a large party with a separate kiddie lane once they have got the hang of the sport.

This Sunday I am otherwise engaged.

I am in the correct group, but I don't mind being put in the kidded group if that evens up numbers. Plus, I might actually beat someone in the kidded group...

My Kids are away this weekend. I would be up for that if I'm allowed to change group for an evening.

Last night was great fun and I get the impression there are enough people around to make it a regular event.

Personally I'd like it to be alternated between the Isar Bowl and the Olymia Bowling. Isar is 20/30 minutes off my journey time so a lot less hastle if I have the kids.

what are the costs like at Isar-Bowlng?

The one thing I like about the Olympia bowling aside from the big parking lot and the extremely close location to my home, is that on Sundays after 6pm, every hour you bowl the price drops, making it really cheap if we want to keep bowling.

Does Isar bowl have something similar? Or maybe their regular Sunday rates are a bit lower so it's close? Just some thoughts...

Isar-Bowling is cheaper than Olympia-Bowling until 8pm then gets expensive. Shoe rent is €0.10 less.
Interesting item: Costs per game for "organized players" are €2.90 as opposed to an hourly rate. How organized are we?

I was trying to work out what 'organized players' meant.

It looks very cheap at Isar over lunchtime. For a wee ones outing lunchtime would suit me better. I'll work out when I have the kids in April and then look at organising something.

Please don't make it the 20th, I have a Neuschwanstein tour, so it'd be impossible for me to make it. Any other sunday would work...

I could talk to the management at Isar and see if we could be considered "organized." Usually reserved for league bowlers, but I know people...
