Hi,

My girl friend is studying in one of the music universities in Germany and will need about three more years for studies. And I am presently living in Delhi, India. My work is mostly with international client and based on Internet. I am planning to move to Germany to my girl friend may be on some research / business / tourist visa by end of this year.

I need your help in understand how many euros a month will be sufficient for living comfortably.

Can someone please tell me approximate money required for following things every month:

Furnished apartment / house rent (one bed room and a hall in Edling)
Average electricity bill (will be used a lot) / telephone bill (wont be used that much)
Normal traveling expenses (train / bus)
Weekend movie with pop corn and coke (in Munich)
Nightclub entry charges / cover charges (in Munich)
Dinner in a nice restaurant (not luxurious)

And anything else apart from these you think are usual charges while living in Germany

By this approximate figures I will be able to plan my earnings accordingly.

Please do not that I will not be working for any company in Germany so I wont need to travel to work and stuff like that.

Thanks a lot in advance

And I think this is maybe the wrong way to look at the question.

Rather than what will I need to do X, I'd ask myself what do I have and what can I get for that?
I'd say below EUR 1000 net income a month is TOUGH and the affordable llifestyle gets significantly nicer as you go through the 1001 to 1999 range as a smaller part of your income is eaten up by basic outgoings. Over EUR 2000 a month net income can mean a nice lifestyle, with plenty of going out and holidays.

The costs of living largely depend on which of the thirty three (33) districts of the city of Edling you choose to live:

Anzenberg, Au, Attelthal, Brandstätt, Breitbrunn, Breitmoos, Bruck, Daburg, Edling, Felling, Fuchstal, Fürholzen, Giglberg, Gschwendt, Hart, Hochhaus, Kumpfmühl, Linden, Mühlthal, Oberhub, Obersteppach, Oberunterach, Ötz, Ramsau, Roßhart, Rudering, Schellwies, Unterhub, Untersteppach, Unterunterach, Weidachmühle, Wolfrain, Zeil.

I suspect the OP means Erding, that glimmering pearl of Oberbayern.
It's "handy for the airport". smile.gif

I survived on 700 euro net a month fairly comfortably, while paying 380 euro a month rent (in Munich). Now that I'm earning a bit more and paying a bit less for rent I feel even more comfortable. Although I'm from a strange background and I don't have the compulsion or need to eat out 2-3 times a week. Just depends on if you can or need to make some sacrifices.

Is 5000 a month considered good in Frankfurt?
