Child care spots in centers for children under the age of three in Germany are few and far between. For years and years the mothers have been told that it is their role in life to stay at home with the children until the child is three, and then the child begins
kindergarten. Every child is guaranteed a kindergarten spot, it just may not be the center you want or the center which is convenient to you. There is no such truth for children under the age of three, and there are no way near enough child care centers for children under three (called Kinderkrippen). Parents who need a Kinderkrippe often sign up their children while the mom is still pregnant, and even then might not get a space.
There are more and more Krippe centers opening up all the time, and there are all german ones as well as bilingual ones. There are private ones and public ones.
Look for a child care center if that is what is right for you, but realize you might end up with a nanny or Tagesmutter (someone who comes in to watch your child or who you send your child to) and not a center.
