Allotments in the Taunus area (Schrebergärten)

Advice on the procedure for getting one

What with spring being in the air, and sweet breezes blowing off the Taunus, my thoughts have turned all pastoral.

So, anyone out there know the process for getting onto the waiting list for a Schrebergärten / allotment?

Is it a "pop down to the local Rathaus" jobbie, or more complicated than that . . . . ?

I realise it's supposed to take forever to get one, but you've got to start sometime, innit?

Thanks, chaps.

No-one? Really - no-one??

I find it hard to believe that this forum is a horticultural wasteland . . . .

I am sorry but I was not online much over the weekend - perhaps it was the same for others.

I am afraid I cannot help on the allotment front either.

Schrebergärten are organised in clubs (Kleingartenverein), and I'd just contact them directly. In Friedrichsdorf, there are two: Kleingartenvereine, and nearby more.

I read that the problem might be that the rent is longterm, and sometimes you have to buy the cabin that comes with the allotment.

With a Schrebergarten, you'll be more German than many locals, and the Schrebergartenbesitzer have a reputation of being a bit peculiar. biggrin.gif

Thanks @RainyDays - looks like exactly the lead I was looking for . . . I shall report back to all on progress (or otherwise).

Just don't expect Kuzzer's Organic Veg Box Scheme ("friendly veg at friendly prices") coming to a town near you anytime soon . . . .

Well, good luck with the "friendly vegs"! (an alternative to German supermarket quality ...)

BTW, by "peculiar" I just thought about the flaggs they often have in these gardens; and I've heard that some clubs have very strict rules about what to plant.
