Oststeinbek - a town close to Hamburg

Opinions and experiences with living there

A friend of mine was offered a job in Oststeinbek. It seems that Oststeinbek is pretty close to Hamburg. I wondered if there are any TTers out there who live or have lived and Oststeinbek and what their experiences are. Is it in the middle of nowhere, out in the country? If you live or lived there, do/did you like it?

For me personally it is quite in the middle of nowhere, other people may have a different opinion.
I have a couple of friends which grew up in the Oststeinbek / Glinde area. Without a car I always found it a pain in the ...bottom wink.gif to get there, or rather, to get away from there in the evening/night.

But it's close to the motorway, and working there doesn't consequently mean you have to live there too...

Imo it's nice for families with children (def. cheaper than in Hamburg to e.g. rent a house), but if you're out and about a lot, not so good. But I haven't lived there myself.

My wife is from there and personally I think its OK to live there since you have all the shopping near by. But as stated it is not a "hot spot". It 20min from Hamburg center so its like living anywhere else in suburbia. If you have kids it beats most of Hamburg school wise but if you dont then you wo't mind the short drive into town;-) Public Transit is actually pretty good and it gives you enough time to fool around on your way to the movies or clubs rolleyes.gif

Definitely need a car. The U/S-Bahn does not run there, so you'd be taking a bus for at least part of the journey to/from Hamburg.
If they're a 'single' then I'd say rent in Hamburg and buy a car.
