The witch
The EGS was founded in 1982. A number of British guys had been playing casual rounds of golf around Munich for a couple of years before that. They decided it would be good to make the arrangement a bit more competitive and so began to organize events in advance, score all rounds and keep a track of changes in handicaps. The society has developed somewhat since those early days but the idea has remained the same.
Today, the EGS is an international English-speaking group with about 50 members, including Scots, Irish, Americans, Australians and yes, even Germans. The Society`s policy is totally open and welcomes members of all nationalities. Handicaps range from 6 to 36.
Anybody who`s interested can come along to the AGM being held this Sunday, 16th March at 11am at the Outland Bar in Haidhausen.

Membership

If you play golf then you’re welcome to become a member of the English Golf Society. You don’t have to play well but you do need to know the rules and etiquette of the game and you need to be able to play a round in under 5 hours without hacking up the course (by most golfing standards a modest requirement). A sense of humour is also quite useful but any golfer who’s hit his first two shots into the bushes off the first tee knows that (and we’ve all done it).

An EGS member gets access to the members’ section of this website, can play in all EGS events and competitions at the reduced green fees that are available to us, he or she receives a credit card-type membership card, all results and changes in handicap are recorded by the Handicap Secretary and he or she is eligible to win prizes in all events.

The membership fee is € 35 a year plus a € 50 joining fee for new members. All income is spent on prizes for the various competitions or on subsidizing the Christmas party.
If you’d like to learn more about the English Golf Society contact us by email or phone.

If you know enough already and you’d like to join, please fill in the membership application form here
