Hi,
I have decided that it is about time that i learn to drive, to get rid of the surprised looks when i say i'm 27 and can't drive!
Does anybody know of any good driving teachers in the Mannheim / Heidelberg area? I really need someone that will be very calm with me, as i had a small accident during my last lesson which has made me not even try for 9 years.
Also what do i need to do here to get my liecense? do i need a provisional first like in the UK?
I speak german but for confidence reasons would prefer it if they could also speak a little english!

i just got my licence 6 months ago at the age of 26. i live in heilbronn about 50min from heidelberg.
provisional licences dont exist here, what you need to do first is find which driving school you want to attend and they will give you some papers that you will have to take to the nearest bürgeramt office with your passport and photos. the papers will need 1 - 3 months to be proceesed but in the meentime you can start your lessons. when the papers have been prossesed they will be sent to the driving school and you will be free to take your theory test when your ready.
you´ll have to attend the driving school 14 times for 1 & 1/2 hour sessions which get quite boring but worth it.
my german is at beginner level but my instructor gave me instructions in english for the first few lessons but then started speaking in german when i´d settled in a bit. i think you´ll find most driving schools will have at least 1 instructer what can speak english
i just want to add that the total cost was more than 1.000€
good luck
