Where to buy guitar strings in Kreuzberg

And also guitar books in English

Hey all,

I'm (un)lucky enough to have the next three weeks off work as I'm using up my holiday days
before the end of my holiday year. For various reasons I have a classical guitar lying around
so I thought I'd try and put the time in to start learning to play the bleeder. Unfortunately it's
lacking a string (the 5th string... I think).

Anyone know where I can get a new string in Kreuzberg? And if so, any idea if they have any
books in English... (unlikely, I know).

Cheers!

There is a good music shop on Oranienstrasse smile.gif Not sure what number but if you just walk down there you will find it.

Not sure about music books in English. This is Germany, after all. I'd try Amazon.

Sweet! Time to get me walking shoes on, nice day for a wander smile.gif

Wasn't really expecting any books in English, Amazon is my saviour biggrin.gif
Having said that, mebbe books in German would be a good thing - might
be a good way of combining two interests into one!

Cheers.

Yep, I was coming in to suggest the store on Oranienstrasse. I believe it's a block or 2 east of Adalbert str. on the south side.

You didn't ask, but www.cyberfret.com is a good english resource for many aspects of playing the guitar (learning the notes, chords, scales, terminology, techniques, etc.). However, it has very little for classical style. Here is a better resource if that's your interest (though I must say I'm not in love with it. I haven't found the perfect classical guitar online resource yet).

the one on oranienstrasse is the only one - but they don't have a ton of books - you can try Noisy Rooms in Friedrichschain - right across the bridge (they also have rehearsal rooms to rent):

also near Nollendorf Platz is a great (i think the best) guitar place with strings, and books - http://www.berlin-guitars.com/cms.php

they guy who runs it is from Florida and super helpful

also - surprisingly i found out that Conrad's Electronics on Hermannplatz has a pretty small but kick ass music department on the second floor in the back - mainly has a lot of things like cables, but plenty of strings - btw the guys on Oranienstrasse are called "Central Music" - they are pretty well stocked, but when i break a string and need a new one, they're always closed - the hours they're open are only 12pm-6pm each day and 12pm-3pm on sat (?). - so just make sure you keep that in mind before trekking over there!
