I watched the 'Allo 'Allo anniversary show (or whatever it was) a few months ago, which included quite a bit of background information. The makers of the show were saying they struggled to find a way to show how the British sound to the French. They finally came up with the idea of making the British mispronounce all the vowels, as from a French point of view that is what they do anyway.

When they dub it into German, they will face new but similar problems, and if they do it well, they can solve them in similarly clever ways. However, I am not too hopeful of that happening, and especially to people who know the original it will seem like a total disaster.

all i say is dads army is much better then allo allo but can't see much chance of it coming on german tv

I think Dad's Army was already on here but was in the same genre as this crap.

Truly can't see how they are going to pull off the accents ' joke ' ?
MonksTown
Germans can pull off the accents "joke" quite well.
Look at that French woman's voice advertising the beer "pricklend in meine Bauchnabeln"! cool.gif

Yeah, I'm a little confused as to why people think accents can't be done in German.

I know German's can do accents relating to other nationalities, just wondering how they do an Englishman posing as a Frenchman ( badly ) in German?
Small Town Boy
Well exactly – I think there is some scope to make the accents even funnier. This will hardly be the first time a television company has had to deal with the issue of accents.

I've seen both "Dad's Army" and "Allo, 'Allo!". Both are classics but for me "Allo, 'Allo!" is slightly wittier because of its linguistic acrobatics and because the humour is slightly more outrageous: "Blonde Madonna with the Big Boobies". "Dad's Army" 's humour didn't quite have that edge. Having said that, I think "Dad's Army" might just remain more the family-type favourite, but that's just a gut-feeling.

I think dads army would be a good show to bring over to germany. Not sure if the germans would like it..

It may let a few of the locals know (the ones that dont already) that we have a sence of humour about the war, enough to make a comedy about our own home guard.

I am quite interested in seeing how the germans pull off a british agent pretending to be french - with all the diolog in german...

If he was a german agent they may have an easier time but that would require a major re-write and they would have to fit the new diolog into the scenes...

Could be quite a challenge...
