I think Neuhausen is a good mix. Nice pubs, near the centre, near the Nymphenburger Schloss & Park. Many singles too.

If you are a student then the Studentenstadt Freimann os one of the largest student residential areas in Germany. If you need help finding a place then the Studentenwerk München is available to help. In particular the housing referral service can be useful (links are in English btw)

I wasn't implying it's a dangerous place, but every town has areas where it's not exactly nice to walk on your own at night.

Actually, none that I know of.

Last time I was in Munich, was 2001, and I was only there to drink. Then I got on a train the next, blurry/horrible morning. I want to come down your way and see how it feels, and I would like to see if anyone here can, without sarcasm or hazing, recommend a decent, semi-upscale part of Munich to visit. I have been looking at hotels online, and just like any other city, stars and perks mean nothing if I have to take the bus 30 miles each day to see the town.

To be a little more specific, I am looking for a good combination of restaurants, bars, and shopping areas - that may not be completely touristy.

It's vague, I know, but so are my memories of Munich.

Thanks! I'll probably fly down there or take the train in the next few days.

Hello,
I'll be moving to Munich in July. Although I'm familiar with the city centre and all the touristy things, I've never lived there, and therefore have no idea which suburb is good to live in- or which ones I should definitely avoid.
I'm looking for something that has good public transport (I'll have to travel all over Munich for work), and is not too far from the centre (I'd say anything up to 20-25 minutes by public transport would be fine).
Any suggestion would help!
Thank you.
C.

That would be just about anywhere in Munich, any direction. What exactly do you want? Busy, trendy, quiet...? Parking or no? Flat or House?

There are three pages of suggestions in this very thread, and a simple search of districts brings up more than a dozen other threads on Munich neighbourhoods.

I wouldn't mind somewhere with a few bars/ beer gardens close by. Not sure if that narrows it down though, or if that's the whole of Munich as well. wink.gif
I'll be looking for an apartment.
