Can anyone give me any advice on getting the cheapest
car insurance in Germany. Are there any screen scrapers like “Confused.com. (web based or high street, I don’t mind) All suggestions and advice, very welcome.

If your German is good enough for understanding, check out "FINANZTEST", it is an independent magazine screening the whole market and the have a lot of up-to-date recommendations from their research. The least expansive are the ones you can apply to online like DA direkt, but they are often not good in catering to the English speaking crowd.

Does anyone know of a good reliable car insurance company on the German economy? I currently use AIG and they are too expensive I think. USAA quoted me the same as AIG so I was trying to shop around a bit.
Cheers.

I had mine with HDI (previously Gerling) and was happy with them.
They even started me at a low percentage when first moved here which was very good.
Good Luck with that!

I arranged mine through
Kretzschmar Insurance from this site and I can recommend. Great English, friendly and good service (which you will discover is not easy to come by in Germanland)

Can anyone recommend a good car insurance dealer that is a cheaper alternative to Direct Line? I'm sure we are paying well over the odds. We have imported and reregistered our car from UK.

If your vehicle is registered in Germany then you will need a German insurer. I use HUK.
If you are keeping a UK car in Germany you can retain UK registration for up to a year,
I used to go back to the UK for an MOT and new VEL every year for years - much simpler
than the German system. German Insurance is on a different basis to that of the UK -
and much dearer.
