Hi,

Does anyone know of any events/activities going on in Munich on Good Friday, or the Easter weekend in general, that are suitable for a hectic 2 year old (and her parents)?

Thanks for any ideas!

helenk: There's an Easter egg hunt at the Munich zoo every Easter. I also think the botanical garden near schloß Nymphenburg is nice to visit with kids. They have a butterfly house that's really exciting for kids. My two-year-old loves it. I'm not sure of opening times, so you might want to check it out. Use the search funtion here for more info.

Hope that helps.

Read in Munich Found that the butterflies inhabit the aquatic plant house until March 16th. Tram 17 takes you there directly. Also, the zoo has an egg hunt on Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend - 23rd, 24th. 80k eggs are hidden and activities include face painting, puppet theater, and bouncing castle. On Easter Sunday Olympiapark has an Easter Festival with performances and competitions. Also, March 17th there will be a St Patrick's parade from Leopold and Ludwigstrasse to Odeonsplatz. Parade leaves at noon from "muchner Freiheit". Ends at 6PM. Also read in Munich Found and read in some past forums that Easter Markets exist.

If the weather is good, I may take my little ones to Lego Land. Never been to the one in Germany but back in Southern California the one is San Diego County is really popular with 2 to 9 year olds.

On Easter Sunday & Monday there is a steam train doing 1 hour trips around Munich. It leaves Ostbahnhof, platform 12, at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:00. Tickets cost EUR 12 for adults, EUR 6 for children or EUR 28 for a family and can be bought on the train. There is an Easter surprise for the children.

Thanks for the great suggestion! We went for a ride yesterday and it was just marvellous! Actually, the ride itself was quite uneventful (nothing to see along the way, only industrial landscapes), but the steam train itself was very cute, children just loved it! And it was very funny to look at all the people who took pictures of our train from the stations smile.gif
