American Troops Going InsaneQUOTE (jimstach@YouTube)
Whats not being reported. Sometimes the truth is horrible. The video contains disturbing scenes of American troops sadistically taunting Iraqi children, randomly throwing grenades at sheep herders and the infamous puppy toss with David Motari. Juxtaposed against a hollow and hypocritical Presidential address this is mandatory watching for every American citizen. George Bush is a war criminal and unfortunately so are some of his troops.

DJ did ya find any videos of UK troops acting the bollix? What is your point? That Americans are stupid? That soldiers are stupid? That the war is stupid?
No KingBilly. But I've seen them. Just because there are arsehole Americans doesn't mean all Americans are arseholes, just because there are arsehole British doesn't mean all British are arseholes, and just because there are arsehole Irish doesn't mean all Irish are arseholes. You should know that.

It always makes me so warm and fuzzy when I see people coming together and behaving as badly as the people they are criticizing. With the warm and polite fuck yous and the welcoming xenophobia against Americans and any other group. Makes me wonder why I ever went out into the world seeking to explore new lands and experience different cultures when I could of just stayed home and experienced it. To think I wasted all that money on a silly passport.
As an international community on this board I think we're all a little more enlightened than this.
If anyone can name a military in the world in which one of its members hasn't done similar - if not worse- that whats seen in this video than please list it.
P.S. I in no way condone the behavior in this video or the atrocities that the American Government commits on a daily basis - nor the atrocities that any government commits for that matter. But I'm not about to judge people based on the action of their government or military.

@ DH : "all my brothers and sisters"? how many do you have, mate? not so nice for your mum if they ALL went off to war, think of the worry! and if all of your sibs went to war, what made you choose not to enroll?
War distorts soldiers perspectives, when one witnesses what they do every day, it dulls the senses to it, until they can't see the horror of it anymore. shameful? yes. bound to happen? also yes.
And to prove DWP's point, let's all congratulate our military for some of the disgraceful and asinine sh*t they've done:

A mature and sensible post. Behaviour like this and much worse happens on a daily basis but just because these particular misguided individuals happen to be American soldiers does not mean that what they are doing here has been sanctioned by their military leaders or for that part George Bush. Off course their conduct is deplorable and most intelligent people recognise this but that does not in any way suggest that all American soldiers operate in this fashion. For the record I would be anti Bush and believe the decision to invade Iraq was wrong.
The real threat to TT and any other society is pathetic, bitter, small minded people and I have been guilty of that personally on occasion but just mouthing off in an attempt to make others look small or using something like this to emotively charge makes you just as bad as the soldiers in the video in my opinion.

Not that I support that kind of behavior, but I think we agree that those soldiers are in situation that is "tense" to put it mildly. They are not getting support from a lot of places and the cause is not easy to understand(didn't we already win this thing? aka:mission accomplished)
I have heard of similar stories from other forces (cat whipping against wall etc.) sadly it's a sideeffect of battle fatigue and/or post dramatic stress.
I find it disturbing that the (some)officers or NCO's fell no need to stop such behavior especially if it makes reg. people turn to the enemy. But thats an old story that the germans didn't get in russia either.

ha ha ha ha ha I don't think I've laughed this hard in a while - me as bad as people in the video. Me making people feel small. I happen to enjoy the people in this forum and I don't feel the need to make anyone feel small. If you read what I post on this forum, for the most part I try to offer advice and help people, but I don't feel the need to tell anyone to fuck off and as you can see Dan Hessen - who is a funny guy on here - took my post well. You don't see him pouting in a corner feeling like I've trampled on him do you ?
Dan are you ok ? should I get my check book out for the therapy I'm sure you'll need after my keyboard lashing ? poor little soul I've been so hard on you. I know you're a nice guy don't worry.
Topcat I think you need to get a sense of humor, but most of all learn about sarcasm. And the next time you want to insinuate that I'm pathetic, bitter and small minded you should learn how to dress it up a little better, or better yet just find your balls and come out with it. I'm a girl - how much damage can I do ?
Well I'm off, time for dinner.

I'd like to point out how polarised we've become as peoples. Three decades of absolute majority politics in western nations has had a very detrimental effect on most of us and almost certainly retarded the development of other nations outside a circle generally considered 'the developed nations'. One wonders if consensus politics prevailed how much further forward the world would be. But then, it's a dog eat dog world. Many champion a cause while the cause walks right back all over them. What I find particularly distasteful is that We (whoever that may be) are supposed to be better than this. That our soldiers are above all of that. And, there is another way of looking at it: The Boot On The Other Foot Effect. The next conflict, our adversaries will have seen and learned that there is no respect, there is no mercy, there are no conventions, and treat our future cannon fodder, many of them friends and family, accordingly. A modern professional military from any country purporting to be a democracy would/will have identified the culprits in these types of images (and there are many) and meated out the oppropriate punishment as a mark to all of where its moralities lay.

Some soldiers are arseholes. War hardens people and they end up doing things that are not normally acceptable.
These are just more reasons to think carefully about the consequences of sending your army off to invade liberate another country. Unfortunately "think carefully about the consequences" is not a term that is often associated with Bush.

Actually I'm suffering from post married to a German stress which is a different animal entirely. I'll explain this for everyone one time. The guy that threw the puppy? The dumbass that threw the firecracker at the sheep? There's at least one dumbass like that in every single platoon in every single military in the world. There's always that one guy that the NCOs and junior officers have to watch like a hawk to make sure he doesn't beat up a hooker, get arrested, rape some local woman, shoot a civilian, shoot himself, wreck the truck, etc, etc and so on. There's always one of these jokers. And it's their eternal dumb-assery that always gets the entire battalion locked down for the weekend (or whatever). Unfortunately in the digital age such dumb-assery can be easily collated and presented as a package to those ignorant turds who are desperate to believe that everyone in uniform acts that way.

Mar 8 2008, 8:33 pm
Although there is no excuse for the way these soldiers are behaving, they should have never been put in this situation to begin with. The video makes a valid point - I simply cannot see any reasons why the whole senior Bush administration should be put on trial for leading an utterly destructive war based on lies.
When the next September 11 happens, there should simply be no one seriously sitting there and asking "Why did they do this to us!". I know the American people didn't want this, and most don't agree with what is happening now, but unless something is done with the perpetrators, then it'll only happen again. And if nothing is done about this injustice, America deserves everything they get.

Cat whipping???
I can´t quite agree with all the post traumatic stress and wotzits! I done a back to back 4 month, then 12 month tour of NI in 77-78, I never felt the need to frag the natives and when our station cat ( name of Kinawley Cat) was sick I put him in my flak jacket and carried him around on patrol (cat flu, he was cold and needed to be kept warm), fed him medicine for 2 weeks until he got better! Now at this time we were in Bandit Country and the shit was hitting the fan big time! I never seen or heard of any lunacy from my hoppos, we were/are/maybe not any more fairly well balanced people. But squaddies tend to try and raise themselves above the heaving green mass in order to be recognised as individuals, hence the tendency to be a bit more daring than our civilian counterparts.
I must admit as a donkey walloper though I have given an occasional horse a good kicking for being uppity! But then they don´t fit into flak jackets and are not so cuddly ascats!
