Freelancing in Germany for clients only in U.S.

Must the business always be registered here?

I've read through numerous posts but all the freelance scenarios seem to be about freelancing in Germany.

I moved here in Nov. with my husband who works for a Germany company. We're residents. I've been a freelance journalist in the U.S. for two years and just moved my office here and do the same work. I have no Germany clients and don't plan on having any. I'll be paying U.S. taxes -- I assume -- but filing in Germany, too, which I understand is the law here. I never thought to register my "freelance" business here until I started reading posts. Do I need to register it if I have no Germany clients.

Thanks.

I really hope what you write is in Spanish.

Yes you have to register as a freelancer here. Good luck with that.

Could you do it for years and not get caught? probably.

Thanks. No we plan -- for now -- to be here for good so no skirting the law, besides, I understand I have better luck getting my kids into a kindergarten if I'm an officially "working" mom.

As far as I know, if your business, freelance or professional is centered in that place (here being Germany) it needs to be registered with the area you live in. When I was in Hamburg for the first time trying to get my visa, I had to register myself as a freelancer. So I can only assume so? But if you've gone so far as to not need registering yet or have someone down your throat to get you to do so, then I guess not then hehe.
