More graphic, less meeting point

After some months of discussion and deliberation the monument to the dead and wounded of the bomb that exploded just outside the main entrance to the Oktoberfest on 26 September 1980 is going to be redesigned. The City of Munich is planning to have the original simple metal post incorporated into a more graphic scenario where it is set inside a semi-circle of sheet metal showing holes symbolizing the massive destruction the bomb caused. Bits of metal are to be set into the pavement around the post for the same effect.

The Green Party has suggested posting the names of the victims on a plaque next to the monument along with information regarding the right-wing extremist background of the attack.

The current monument is a favorite meeting point for groups visiting the Wiesn, they stand on the slightly raised platform and litter the whole area their cigarette butts and garbage. I have met with friends there before and found the whole monument a bit lacking in something. Like it's shamefully tucked away in a corner. The new design certainly gives a more drastic impression of the violence and force of the explosion. As to putting up names, I don’t know. The victims' families should have a say about that. And would Gundolf Köhler, the guy who planted the bomb, be included on the same plaque as the victims?

Can't we just get the 28 candidates from the ProMünchen Partei and ceremoniously blow them up on the spot as a mark of respect?
