We've never been to one but we're looking for one that's not too big and maybe has some things for kids? Any first hand experiences?

Yes I would also like to experience an Easter fire, any information anyone?

Osterfeuer in Hamburg 2008 ...

I checked out the above site and it looks like there are a lot of them! Can anyone recommend one to go to? I've lived here awhile but didn't make it last year. I'm going to have guests in town Easter weekend so it would be great to take them with.

I cannot really recommend a certain Easter fire - the best ones are the private ones anyway. So if you have any German friends who are having a fire in their backyard, or friends of friends, that would probably be the best choice.

There's some nice ones around the Elbe, been to one in the "Altes Land" a few times, but that was many years ago, so don't know how it is now.

Generally I find the big ones way too overcrowded, smaller ones in the boroughs are nicer, but then again, it all depends with whom you go there imo. It's nice to go with a few friends, if you go only with your partner, it can turn out to be quite boring, can also turn out to be quite romantic...

I'm going to ask around a bit and will post ideas if I hear something interesting smile.gif

I dont know anything about the big fires, but I went to my first Osterfeuer last night at a small neighborhood, invited by one of my players. It was fantastic. The whole neighborhood gathered and burned wood and then Christmas Trees and then more wood until nearly 3 AM. There was free food (some of these ladies cooked incredible things) and free beer. I guess it was really more of a pot luck than a free thing, but it was a great atmosphere and everyone was friendly and talking to everyone, including strangers like me. I was really impressed with the whole concept and enjoyed myself thoroughly.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself Kyle. We went down to the beach in Blankenese and there were tons of food booths and lots of people, but the fires were pathetic. There were a few small individual fires, but we were hoping for one big fire. We left after about 10 minutes.

but the fires were pathetic.

This could be due in part to the vast amount of H2O that has fallen on us over past weeks. The whole place is awash - cattle standing in water etc.
