A sad moment for hard core nerds everywhere. Gary Gygax, creator of treasured geek time-killer Dungeons & Dragons, has died today. He had a strength of only 8, but intelligence and wisdom of 18, charisma of 16 (though a comeliness score of only 10). One of my favorite wizards, I guarantee that right at this moment he's sitting on top of a giant stack of gold, quaffing a flagon of mead and trading stories with Robert E. Howard and Michael Moorcock. (Tolkien is in the galley making sandwiches.) Here's to you GG. You gave hopeless poindexters the world over (i.e. people like me) a fantastic place to play.

As Moorcock is still with us on this Prime Material Plane, I doubt they're drinking together just yet.

A sad good bye to someone who ruined TV and books for me.
After playing D&D for a few years as a kid (from the age of 8) I could just not be botherd with what he, through his creation, turned into a passive entertainment experience.

Guess he failed his last saving throw.
Sigh.
Piers Anthony is indeed still kicking.
Edit: damn, I didn't see the subtitle until after posting.

QUOTE (BadDoggie @ Jan 16 2006, 12:53 pm)

Manfred Mann's Blinded By the Light. OK, Springsteen's, but for some reason I usually hear MM's versino.
The line is "Revved up like a deuce" but I always heard "Wrapped up like a douche" and so never understood what the hell he was going on about in that song. Of course, even now that I know the lyrics I still have no clue what the hell the song is supposed to be about.
woof.
Met the Master Dungeon Master a couple time at GenCon. Never had the pleasure of playing with him. RIP.
