A post elsewhere on TT lead me to the CBS site where I noticed this 60 Minutes report about a relief agency. It provides free medical care to those who have no other access to it. They started out in Third World countries. Now they're doing most of their work in the US.

As crappy and tedious as the German (and, I hear, UK) health care system may seem sometimes - seems like they beat this.
