yeah baby walz is a bit more on the expensive side. There is one here in Haar. Just outside of Munich. A much bigger and better one is Baby Welt. You need a car to get there and it is an hour outside of Munich. There is also a Toys R Us with not such a huge selection of baby stuff. If you are coming from the US I would bring as much as you can.

I second Luna's suggestion of BabyWelt. If you are buying a really big-ticket item like a German Kinderwagen you may offset the cost of driving there through savings--I think when I priced our Hartan Racer a few years back it was a good 40 Euros cheaper at BabyWelt in Augsburg. And for furniture and things like rugs, curtains, various toys, there's always IKEA as well.

Baby Reinartz has a wide selection of strollers and also clothes, toys, bottles and so on. We usually go there if we need to buy a lot of baby things at once - really convenient. You will have to google the address, it's just outside Munich.
Also very good (and expensive): Schlichting. Walking distance from
Marienplatz. Good quality and very helpful staff.
Or you may want to go to Pick Auf in Euro Industriepark. Bigger than Baby Reinarzt and Schlichting, they have a huge selection of strollers and sell almost everything you'll need for a baby. Not too many toys if I remember correctly. But I recommend checking it out. I really like it.

They closed down or at least changed locations. I drove past the former store two weeks ago and it was closed and all signs removed.
thanks guys, now i know i have a few options

I've not yet been to a Baby Walz store but I have purchased things from their catalog and have been very happy with the quality. The prices might be higher than some other stores but the wares are good-- so there's value for the money. I probably spent less buying one good stillkisse (breastfeeding/boppy pillow) from Baby Walz that has lasted for years (way past breastfeeding days-- but great for propping oneself up to read in bed) than my friend who bought a cheap one that fell apart and had to be replaced.
They have stores all over Germany and now a few in Austria as well.

One more comment -- there are tons of second-hand markets around Munich for kids stuff. Lots of kindergardens and churches host them in March. You can buy tons of stuff quite cheaply that way. I need to figure out what to do with old baby clothes/toys now that my youngest is 15 months...keep thinking I should sell at a second-hand market but so far I don't have time to get organised to do it.

I found
www.tragemaus.de I guess is online only... It has a great variety of baby carriers... However the one that I want is not there! (maya wrap sling). So before I settled for whatever I can find, I was wondering if I order it from the US or UK, how much will I have to pay in customs.
Many thanks!:)
if you don“t mind shopping online, the baby section in amazon.de is excellent (has baby walz among its brands), even cheaper is
www.mytoys.de - they have a really big selection and are by far cheaper than baby walz
