Hi ya'll,

My wife (US citizen) and I (German citizen) currently live in the US but we're ready to move back to Germany. She has a Bachelor's and Master's in Kinesiology as well as a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. She has taught 5th grade (that's still Elementary) for two years. How hard would it be for her to become an elementary school (Grundschule) teacher in Germany? Are there any exams to pass or does Germany recognize the BA degree?

Would it be easier if she had a Master's in elementary education?

For all of you how made the move to Germany: How easy was it for you to find a job? In which country do you think it is easier to teach?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Once your wife speaks German, she might like to look for work in the field that is kind of on the crossoverbetween education and pysio/ occupational therapy.
Honestly speaking I think she mght find the hurdles to becoming a regular teacher in a elementary school quite high.

It's an example form high school but it might gove you an idea:
An ex colleague of mine (he's German) had a French wife ie an EU Citizen so couldn't de discriminated against.
She had a degree in German from a univerity in France.
But the Bavarian state government refused to allow her to teach FRENCH becasue "her German wasn't good enough".

Maybe your wife should think of doing a TEFL course before you come over?

All the best. smile.gif

or maybe she could get a job at one of the International Schools. There are two in Munich this one and this one for example!
There are many others around Germany too.

Perhaps working in one of the Dept of Defense Dependent Schools located in Germany is an option to consider. Don't know what their qualifications are for teachers, but here's the link:
