Hello,
I am new here, and new to Hannover. I am desperatly looking for a store that sells professional digital cameras. Specifically the
Canon Powershot G9. Any help with this one?
Thanks in advance...

Any specific reason, if you know what model you want, not to buy it online?

Sounds on first impression like he needs repairs.

Could be, but I would have thought he'd use the word 'repairs' and not 'sells' in that case. Then again, I'm not a native speaker, so I'm probably wrong.

Its absence doesnt disqualify its intimation. If the camera wanted is that specific he couldve googled it. By the same token, he could have the camera already and is looking for places that sell it in the hope that itll be repaired there. For me, the initial post is quite vague as couched, hence the confusion. Either way, we're not helping this guy much thusfar.

Powershots aren't "professional" by any stretch of the imagination. They're pocket cameras, "digies" in the parlance of German professionals. Pros use high-end SLRs, like the Canon 1D, 5D, 10D, 20D/30D/40D. The Digital Rebel series (300D/350D/400D/450D) are also consumer-grade, though in the right hands they can produce well, as Keydeck has proven many times in the gallery.
If you're looking for a PowerShot, you'll get the best prices at Media Markt or Saturn if they run a sale. It may be wiser to look in the Yellow Pages for a local store and spend a few extra euros for the advice they're much more able to provide. There's only one guy in the Munih MediaMarkt who knows his shit when it comes to cameras; the other dozen in the section are utter fuckwits.
I'd also urge you to read
Considering buying a digital camera? and follow the links.
woof.

I was also going to comment on this – first time I've seen a compact digital camera described as "professional".
Maybe he's desperate in the sense that he wanted to buy one last night at 1.21am.

Well this discussion, I guess, can be equivalent to a rangefinder although most in this certain era wouldc onsider it another point and shoot. So yes it could be considered professional...

Ok...
I took a look at the New Olympus E3..
A nice bit of kit, but a nice price tag to go with it.. 1600€ For the body only..
Anyone got one or used one yet?
EDIT... Wrong place to post, I know.. But at least some will read it!

Woa thanks for all the relpys guys! Yeah I dont mean professional as in DSLR or anything like that. Forget the "professional" part. I dont need repairs, I want to buy the camera itself from a local store in Hannover. so any help?

Is there any reason you'd not prefer a cheaper deal online, if you already know the model you're interested in buying?

How good are Olympus DSLRs? Prices are very competitive. PLUS is offering Olympus E-410 (17-45mm) DSLR for 399 EUR, almost the same price as a Canon Powershot G9.

You can't really compare the Olympus E-410, which is an SLR, with the Powershot G9, which is a compact. The E410 is specced and priced to match the market leader, the
Canon 400D. Read the review on
DPReview to get a better idea if it's any good.
Looks like that particular lens kit is being phased out – there's one left on
Amazon, also for €399.

I am having problems with my credit card now, and I can't buy it online. If I had the online option I would of bought it from the US for $400 as opposed to the 480 euros in Germany... So I need a local store...

Well, if you had bought it from the US then you'd have regretted it, as the costs and hassle of dealing with Customs and duty would have erased any price savings. Since most online stores in Germany don't even accept credit cards, but only bank transfers, I don't see where the problem lies.

@ Minga..
All photos posted by myself and Grinner are taken with the Olympus DSLR..
e500 and e510.
The 410 is a nice bit of kit too, and IMHO they make by far the best Lenses.

You have to understand, I dont live in Hannover, I am going to be there for only a few days this week, I cannot wire transfer or anything this is why I need a local store. Come on you guys want me to believe that there isn't a single store in the whole Hannover that sells this relatively common camera? A friend of mine gave me 500 euros in cash to buy him this camera, thats all...
Small Town Boy
Mar 2 2008, 2:46 pm
No-one's suggesting there isn't a store that sells this camera, but as no-one voluntarily chooses to live in Hannover there's a lack of local knowledge. Without asking why your friend can't buy the camera for himself, I'd suggest walking down the main shopping street and stopping when you see a
Saturn electronics store or a department store.

Yeah, Hannover is far away and we just sought alternative ways to help you. Down here in Munich I'd recommend a few shops that would beat Saturn price-wise, but that wouldn't be of much help to you in your situation.
Good luck and happy hunting.

Ill post back if I find it...

From someone who is in Hannover, your best bet would probably be any Photo-Dose location. There is one in the main train station. There is also a Saturn near the train station (go out the main entrance and bear right), but their prices generally aren't so hot.
Cheers,

Media Markt on Vahrenwalder Strasse is also really good. Take the U-Bahn 1 towards Langenhagen... stop "Kanalbrücke" you'll see it from the U-Bahn anyway.
