Lesbian and Gay English Speakers Drinks

Well we're all busy boys and girls and as you know at the cutting edge of the trends so let's get this one up early!

Me and mate who work a bar have been asked by a number of people to do an English speakers LGBT meet up
for a rake of beers, say hello and what not before Xmas.

So we picked:

Friday 10 December
from 8pm, in SUB in Müllerstr.43..

We couldn't get a reservation for the upper floor so we'll be squished on the tables at the back of the downstairs - but handy for the bar!

The beer as you may well know is cheap and good!
The health regulations don't allow the SUB officially to serve food but if someone brought along some mince pies or so in a personal capacity there shouldn't be a problem

The "community centre" venue is not everyone's cup of tea but it's free, fairly neutral and they'll be glad to have us.

I'm not a big fan of fixed "Stammtisch" but if there's French, Spanish and Italian meet ups I'm sure we can manage to get together now and again too.

Please pass the details on to any English speakers you know who play for the team and ask them to pass them on too.
The more the merrier!

Cheers

G

For those of you who like it all a bit studenty and alternative please note that it looks like the CandyClub is closing! The last night is gonna be Friday 26th November - so get there and club your knickers off !

Looks like a mega weekend then for English speaking family in SUB:

Saturday 11th Dec , me and a mate are working the bar Saturday with a "Bring Your Own" music policy - you want it, you bring it and our DJ will play it.

Sunday 12th Dec , is the start of a regular screening of "Queer as Folk" from 8pm.
It seems until now they were planning to show the (milder) USA version but I am trying to persuade them that the version set in Manchester in Britain with a much higher sex+ drugs quotient is FAR more realistic than what the prude Yanks allow on TV.

Hope to see some of you there.

I almost jumped at it but suddenly remembered that I have a CD player tongue.gif

can anyone tell me what the difference between standard english and "lesbian and gay english" is? (ref: thread title)

I'd call you a hair splitter but you know most gay lads wax, unfortunatley! wink.gif

But here you go, some 60s "Polari" slang:

Bona = Good
Lallies = Legs
Lilly = Police
Omi-palone = homosexual
Vada = to look

Some of the words have transferred into standard slang English in the meantine.

Scarper
Slap (fo make up)
Dizzy for scatterbrained
Glossies for magazines

etc

Was a top night. We aren't going to do a "Stammtisch" but the chances are that you'll meet a few English speakers if you head to the "SUB" gay centre bar any Thursday - Müllerstrasse 43. Maybe see you there! smile.gif
