Yesterday as I was stood on the S-Bahn platform I saw an advert for a weekend card that you can buy, that enables you to use the whole of the MVV network from 16:00 on a Friday until 6:00 Monday morning. It is valid for one year and costs €187 for one person and €271 for a family ticket, which covers you, your partner and up to 3 children, or you and as many children as you want up to 14 years old.
For someone like myself who buys a day ticket once a week on Fridays costing €10 it will have paid for itself after just nineteen trips, plus I can travel on on Saturdays and Sundays for nothing. You have to be a member of the ADAC to buy one, which I am, so I shall be getting one next week.
Link to the relevant MVV page.Link to the relevant ADAC page, which you may have to be a member to access.
They are sold at the ADAC offices of which there are four in Munich and others all over Bayern

Great! Thanks for the info. Never heard about it even though I am an ADAC member. It's already worth it for just going to the airport and back a few times a year.

As long as you're only going at weekends though. You'd have to go to go quite often to make it worth while, a partner gesamtnetz tageskarte costs €18 so you'd have to use it for about 15 times to make it worth while, still a good deal if you do that.

Good point. I usually fly to Munich on weekends. It'd also give me free weekend transport while I'm there. As a single ticket to the airport costs € 9.50? i'd need to travel to Munich 10 times a year to make it cover the costs from/to the airport (and don't let anyone pick me up/drop me off in their new fancy BMW

).

I have had one of the family cards since June last year.
As a single card it works out great.
As a family card, it is only valid when the ADAC member is present.
This means that I cannot give the card to my wife for her to use to come and meet up with me.

For an extra €16,60 a year your partner could be an ADAC member as well. Would that make it valid?

Good question, I will have to ask them.
More than likely not though because the name on the Freizeitcard has to match the name on the passport.
But you never know.

I just read the details and it says the card holder has to be there, so you're right.

Nothing to do with Munich specifically :
ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club e.V.) is Germany's and Europe's largest automobile club...
A little more info into your profile perhaps?
