Hi, seeing as our recent hiking trip was very successful and there will be more planned, I thought about also trying for a bike tour.
I would like to suggest around May when it would be easier to predict the weather and also give some of you to go and find
a cheap bike at a flea market or whatever wink.gif

If there is anyone interested I will throw a few dates and ideas around and let's see.

cheers

Ian

antony.s
I'd be up for that

Count me in too! Great idea Ian.
PrinceOfDenmark
I'd be interested too.

Sounds fab! I'll be getting a new bike for my bday in April as well! Yippee! =)
Lenou
I might be up for that!
rozija
what sort of distances do you expect to cover? I live in Frankfurt but could well be tempted to come up and join you! I think my limit would be around 80 km day though..
sportykiwi
I'm interested, just let me know the dates
Ajani
Hi,
It's a good idea! If I don't have to work, I will join all of you :-).
Englishmanincologne
I'd also be interested...although currently lacking said two wheeled instrument required

Well I am not too sure if I want to plan a biggy myself. My thoughts were to cycle maybe 40 or 50 Km on the Rhein either south or north heading out of Cologne
and then maybe train it back after taking some 'refreshments smile.gif However you could cycle all the way back to Ffm I guess wink.gif

Another thought was that we could do this over a weekend.. I would have to get some 'special leave' in that case. Then we could head out of Cologne really early on a Saturday
morning and just see how far we get.. That would mean camping somewhere along the way and continuing on Sunday.. finally taking a train back from somewhere late on Sunday
afternoon, early evening...

Any other ideas ?
Lenou
I think cycling along the Rhein is a good idea! maybe from Cologne down to Bonn or something?
Please make sure the level of difficulty isn't too high..I never ran the Tour de France!! ;-)
When were you thinking of organising it?
aspiadas
Hi Lenou, probably around June time. I was not thinking of anything Tour de France pace but more say Tour de Pubs pace wink.gif
Lenou
@Aspiadas: great!! Tour de Pubs sounds good to me ;-)) ! and June would be great!
nicgman
It this bike trip still taking place?
aspiadas
@nicqman.. yes but in June
Same
hi, i'd really like to take part in this too if possible, has a date been sorted yet?
aspiadas
Morning. So I tentatively plan to go for a bike ride on the Sunday 15th June. Starting in Cologne and finishing in Düsseldorf for a few beers
before heading back with the train. Who's in ?
antony.s
Assuming I have acquired a bicycle by then, absolutely
Lenou
I'm in!!

FYI, there is usually a bicycle market on Saturday mornings outside st Agnes church, just a few metres up Neusser strase from Ebertplatz station
Lenou
There is also one at the Unicenter every Saturday morning (U-Bahn 18 - Weisshaustrasse)
mirandapalmer
I'm also keen, granted that I'm not required to work and can get the kiddie seat off the back of my host father's bike.
Nemmy
I'd be up for it too, just need to get a bike now!

Pah, not today there wasn't, nor at Rudolfplatz. Any suggestions for bicycle markets so I can get one in time for this trip???
cyn
not sure of the date but the next one will be in june on a weekend at friesenplatz. on that square in front of si claro and weingarten. maybe you'll find out when its on in june.

its like the gebrauchtfahrradmarkt koeln

there was one last week and only saw a sign saything its once a month. but i'd say the bikes where fairly expensive. (well for my taste)

you could also try to get one of these bikes that the city auctiones coz it was parked for 1/2 a year or so at the same spot, they are usually fairly cheep
Nemmy
Aha!

Hi Ian,

I am new here and also have a bike which hasn't been put in too much use. I would love to join the group on this Tour De Pub event..hehehe
Sounds really healthy.

cheers,
Elsi
aspiadas
Cool so we have a four or five already i think. I will post the meeting place and time in a few days... would say we should leave earlyish (not too early)

cheers
Nemmy
Well I'd still like to get my own bike but that's 3 weekends now with no market at Friesenplatz or St Agnes Kirche, and I don't want to buy a brand new one ... sad.gif
Worst comes to worst I'll hire a DB one I guess, unless anyone has one for sale?
aspiadas
Nemmy, from the link you posted earlier there are still two weekends with used bike markets in Cologne

Sa. 07. Juni - Köln-Neustadt-Nord/Nippes Agneskirche, 8:00-16:00 Uhr
Sa. 14. Juni - Köln-Südstadt/Bürgerhaus Stollwerck, Parkplatz, 8:00-16:00 Uhr

I might check one of them out myself...

cheers

Ian
Nemmy
Hi Ian, yep I'm planning on going to the Agnes Kirche one this Saturday to see if it's actually on.
I might even find a bike I like lol

Let us know if you're going too, could always meet up there to say hi.
aspiadas
Hi Nemmy, I doubt I will be able to swing my self out of bed so early tomorrow to make that. I might try and make it to the Süd Stadt next week. Cheers
Nemmy
I am now "with bike" so I am ready to go! (I am fully certain I will manage to get a puncture within the first mile).
Nemmy
Erm, is this still on or has it been postponed? huh.gif
aspiadas
Hmm weather forecast for the weekend looks bad. Rain and quite chilly.. maybe we have to postpone this...
antony.s
(woo for me, need to get over bronchitis first, and still need to get bike)
BritGirl
@ Antony, so in about another 6 weeks time you'll be fit and healthy?
Nemmy

sad.gif fair enough I guess. Keep us posted with new date (preferably not weekend 21/22 June pls).
aspiadas
No problem.. but keep an eye on the weather anyway... maybe the forecast is wrong...
Nemmy
I'd still like to get out for a cycle this Sunday morning / afternoon if the weather is decent and anyone might be interested?
No idea where though...
aspiadas
Gave it some thought but the way the weather is I think a long lie in bed tomorrow looks more enticing
Nemmy
How about Sunday 29th June?
I'm sure we'll be back in time for the EM2008 Final!
Nemmy
So... come on Aspiadas, any plans to reorganise this event?
I would love to get out and do a decent bike ride smile.gif
aspiadas
Any preference on the 6th or the 13th July ?
Nemmy
6th would be good for me.
Unfortunately weekend of 13th my wife is visiting from England and I don't think she'd fancy going cycling...
aspiadas
Ok lets say provisionally the 6th.. I just have to check and see that I have definitely nothing going on that day. Shall we keep destination Düsseldorf ? It's always a good place to end up for a few beers in the Alt Stadt afterwards. Anyone else interested ?
Nemmy
Yes, anyone else interested? I need someone who is going to be as slow as me!!!
