I'm sure
Leo's is expensive (though you can't find any price info)... however I'm paying 80 a month now for a gym that's OK (but not great). I'm assuming it's in the same price range.
For me having a relaxed, nice gym gives incentive to working out... I could just go there, but knowing how "weak" I can be I'd probably end up with some charming sales gal and would sign up for anything

Thanks much... must be one of those things where "If you have to ask you can't afford it" or "Price? When you're one of us uber-cool Schawbingers you don't ask or care about such mundane things". Actually it's not the monthly I usually freak out on it's the asking for your first born up front.

I think it is 100 Euro a month + sign on fee (not to sure what it is) could be anything between 100-300+

I took a tour a few months ago and got a rate card which I assume is still correct...

Application fee 100Euro for full time hours or 70 Euro for daylight hours which is daily until 5pm. Then it's broken down as follows:
Full Time - 6 months 99Euro per month, 12 months 84Euro per month - one month 130Euro
Daylight - 6 months 79Euro per month, 12 months 64Euro per month - one month 105 Euro.
Hope this helps

Perfect thanks so much... that isn't too bad (well for around here). Still surprises me that the costs here are even beyond Reebok/LA Sports Club in NYC (which is like the heaven of fitness centers).
Well at least when you spend that kind of coin it guilt trips you into going

Be careful, it doesn't always. I can name half a dozen people, including myself, who didn't use a very expensive gym membership more than 4 times in 6 months. I know Leo's used to do a 10-card, so you could just purchase visits, rather than months. Ask them about that option.

They're really picky about appearances there, I've known instances where they tell people they have no room for new members because they didn't have the right look. Boris Becker was spotted there once.

I like my gym. small (so you get to know everyone, at least by sight)but has all the equipment that i need. only once studio for aerobics and stuff but not really into that. PLus they have just built a new sauna area on a second floor.
And it only cost me €290 for the whole year with no sign on fee. I would recommend it to anyone who is not into the chiccy micky "lets be seen" type of "fitness".
Nautilus on Frankfurter Ring.
Will be going back to burn off my ever-increasing weight as soon as i am off the damned crutches.

Are there any Gyms (reasonably priced if possible) around
Lehel, Isator.

I go to Elixia (like once in month!) in
Leopoldstrasse. It is quite ok. I pay something around 50 a month. However, you have to sign a year's contract with them which kinda sucks.
Cheers!

Yeah I do... and sad, but true, it can be motivating. For me it's worth it since I usually go 3-4 times a week (but haven't since moving to Munich).
But if I'm going to be playing Badminton with smashers like yourself I need to get back on the program!

Leo's is maybe *the* best gym in Munich and well worth the price when compared to the higher priced Elixias (Prinzregentenstr etc.) which suck balls compared to Leos.
Additionally I just took a trial day at Fitness Company on Landsbergerstr and really liked it - too far away for me though. They will open another gym in 2005 in
Schwabing though. Could be my pick in the future if I wont also join Leos.

Hey this is strange.
Yesterday I was invited to join Leo's. However, its around 70 euros a month, and I think its worth it. (also international stylists, models, and actors get some special deal there if you show proof). Its open to 11pm on the weekdays.
Although Im not one who enjoys the tread mill...the daily yoga classes are the reason Im joining (and the cute yoga instructors). I start next week!
But the co-ed nude sauna sort of makes me nervous. Not because of the nudity, but the image of sitting in someone else sweat puddle freaks me out.
Its all absorbed by the towels that everyone sits on. No sweat puddles.

I go to Leo's. It's a great gym, the staff are generally bi-lingual (if you need it), it's open most hours you would want to train, it has an excellent range of equipment, and any time I've been there without exception it's hardly ever full to the point where you can't do what you want to do.
I agree it's a bit on the expensive side but I like being able to go and do a decent workout and not have to wait for machine after machine.

PS. yes the prices quoted above are the current ones.

how toronto, how does one get "invited" to join?
p.s. was a member of the fitness gallery til i moved to munich. you can train anywhere in germany and the gyms are top notch. price was right too. i just can't see paying €70 a month. i bawked at the €50 i dished out in esslingen, but i went 3-4 times a week and it was money well spent. since i stopped, i now have 3-4 ugly kg more.

Invited to join... you gals get all the breaks don't ya!
I hear ya on the gain post stopping... my pants are getting a little snug... plus picking up the Helles habit didn't help either.
If it's as good as it looks on the web I'll pay the extra... plus I enjoyed the butt cheek walnut cracking bit at the cinema (though I'm sure producing/showing ads like that is one reason the costs are sky high).

Yeah. I was invited to join Leo's as well. I guess they finally realized I was an ultra-cool, scarf-wearing, puma-shoe wearing, debt-ridden, mercedes-driving Schwabinger!! Finally someone noticed!! I love Leo's. Nobody ever actually uses the free weights. They're only there for show...and they look so shiny and new!! I've noticed the only part of the gym that actually gets used are the tanning beds and maybe the aerobic rooms for the yoga classes. Another plus, is that I can wear my ass-hugging spandex shorts and nobody laughs at me!! There are no towels because nobody actually sweats...that would mess up the make-up I guess. I love this gym and I wish more cool people, like me would join. Not anybody from
Haidhausen though...They're just a bunch of freaks!!!

@ Anabi...
I joined a small "ladies only" gym in Hohenzollerstr. in
Schwabing called "Lady Sportiv".It costs around €60 a month but in my opinion worth it.While theres still your typical Schwaing -crowd attending, its somehow slot more stress-free as there are no men there to impress. There's a sauna and a relaxation room and they offer just about every course under the sun.Why not check it out.You also buy a trial month for around €29.
@everybody...someone else asked about a gym in Lehel/Isartor?? There's a cool one at Liebherr Str. 5 .Its called MISS. Around €60 a month.

Well that sounds great, only downside is that I'm a guy (though sometimes my behavior... oh I digress again).
However, if they're willing to bend the rules I'd be happy to join (hell, I'd even pay extra to be the only guy! Talk about a reason to hit the gym everyday!).

A good option to try out leo's is to get a 10 pass card - costs EUR 160; expensive, but includes a 1.5 hr session with a trainer. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago - it's the closest gym (5 minute walk) to home which is the biggest motivational factor for me.
After a few visits I think leo's reputation is overrated - there is a wide range of people there so I doubt there's a biased entry policy though perhaps it's recently been relaxed to get their member #'s up.
The equipment is great, people are generally friendly, lots of classes and it's clean - comparable both in price and quality to the clubs in downtown Toronto. On the other hand my girlfriend and I tried out elixia on leopoldstr a couple of months ago - for the extra 10 or 20 eur a month, leo's is far and away worth it

Thanks all so much for the info... I checked it out and it's clearly the best facility I've seen so far, so I joined on the spot (I was glad they didn't have a large upfront cost like in the US). However, I have been disappointed that for 90 a month you don't get towels or water... at Sports Club LA in the US for the same price you got everything - toothbrushes, towels, razors, hair gel, etc... and with full basketball court, rock climbing, olympic pool, etc... it really had a high end feel.
For all the pomp and nose in the air Leo's has it'd be considered a mid level gym back home worthy of maybe a 25-35 a month fee. When the guy showing me around was giving his this is such an amazing place speech I called him out on that and he did tone down. I don't mind arrogance as long as you can back up the attitiude with some meat. Okay I'll stop my rant about snooty folks with no substance to back it.
However, I'd still say if you want a nice gym with great classes (and boxing!) then Leo's is probably the best choice. If you work out several times a week then the extra money is worth it.
