FC Bayern fans paint the town red ...and white

Graffiti attack one day before Cup derby with 1860

Bayern München fans have painted the sacred “cage” in the West Curve of 1860’s traditional Grünwalder Stadion in red and white stripes – the Bayern colors. And adding a final insult, they scrawled “FC Bayern” in letters six feet high under the manually operated and protected score board. The stadium is still used by both the 1860 and Bayern München teams for amateur games, but this provocation is definitely directed to tonight’s Cup derby Bayern München v. TSV 1860.

Emotions are running high among the fans and officials of 1860 regarding not only the damage to the substance of the city-owned stadium but also the violation of their most sacred ground. The main object is to remove the logo and paint job before kick-off at 8.30 pm today. Some reasonable and clever fans have offered to volunteer and re-paint the stands – in blue and white, 1860’s colors. The city, meanwhile, has filed charges against persons unknown for trespassing and damage of property.

Of course, the air over the Allianz Arena will be electric. The police will be out in full force to separate the rival fans, the MVG will even segregate the fans and cart them to the stadium in separate trains.

Meanwhile, the police investigators have profiled the culprits: Artistically talented Bayern fans with the necessary petty cash to purchase enough paint to coat a whole section of a stadium and lots of empty cans of paint.

I don't understand, the game is being played in the Allianz Arena, the painting was done in the old 1860 stadium, so why have they got to remove it before tonight? What am I missing here?

So they can go to the game unbesmirched.
But you do have to admire the chuzpe of it all. Hund san s' scho!

Apparently I'm going to a "public viewing" of this tonight – I'm still slightly unclear if that's someone's living room or a large outdoor screen à la World Cup. If the latter, I'm wondering if there'll be any segregation of the fans there...?

I saw that in the news last night. laugh.gif The TV reporters spoke to Ottmar Hitzfeld and he replied with "It wasn't me."
hahahathe just the idea of Hitzfeld, Hoeness and Beckenbauer spray painting the Löwen's stadium had us cracking up! laugh.gif

Alright, I'll get back to work. ph34r.gif

Zumindest der FC Bayern kommentiert die Farbaktion auffällig zuhaltend. Bayerntrainer Ottmar Hitzfeld versicherte auf der Abschluss-Pressekonferenz der Gastgeber: „Ich war es nicht.“

Today is the 108th anniversary of the founding of FC Bayern München in a Schwabing local called "Gisela". It was a group of 11 men who left the MTV 1879 München (a gymnastic club).

The boys in Blue were founded right after the 1848 "Revolution", closed down for being too "republican" but allowed to re-form in 1860. It's the boys in red who are the upstarts.

woof.
sarabyrd
The soccer department of 1860 wasn't founded until 1899, making them 109 years old in April (Wiki).

QUOTE
The roots of the TSV's founding as a physical fitness and gymnastics association go back to a meeting held July 15, 1848 in a local pub, Buttleschen Brauerei zum Bayerischen Löwen. Banned in 1849 by the Bavarian monarchy for "republican activites" , the club was formally reestablished on May 17, 1860 and after mergers with a number of other local associations in 1862 was known as Turnverein München. A football department was created on March 6, 1899 and played its first matches against other squads three years later.

What's a year between rivals?

I wonder what the fcb fans would say playing in a blue lit allianz stadium?

In theory it should be lit up red tonight, because it's a "home" game for FCB.

And in case Bilko is keen to know, I'll be watching it in the pub.

Nothing, eventhough blue is only a colour for Giesinger Bauern wink.gif . The stadium is always lit in the colour of the team who is actually the "home-team".

Jaysus! That referee is a disgrace...
Small Town Boy
I actually thought the referee had a pretty good game. The foul that lead to the penalty was definitely just outside the area, which was very harsh on 1860, given that they were within seconds of a penalty shoot-out. However the earlier incident probably should have been a penalty, so it evened out.

I think that 1860 can hold their heads high. Bayern Munich, in contrast, can't exactly gloat. 120 minutes without scoring against a team 30 places below them in the league is not a convincing performance.

Yeah, Jeremies wanted more money and Beckenbauer was slapped by the coach for being a lazy, foul-mouthed jerk who fathered his first bastard at the tender age of 18.
I am a fan of neither team but to think that painting the blue stadium red is an enormity, still you gotta give it to these guys, they are dedicated.

I dunno, that's the first time I watched a whole game from FCB, but I would rather play Poldi and klose. Luca Toni is a bit lazy, and the arm waving and praying looking up to the sky at every decision must get on his teammates nerves. But then again, with the amount of money he cost, it would take a brave man to put him on the bench.

Last night he was awful.
DJ_Jazzy_Guff
Luca Toni is guuuffffff - as are Bayern. Was at the game last night in the 1860 end and Bayern were truly awful. 1860 were toothless but outplayed their far wealthier opponents. The penalty was the ref's way of saying, "I wouldn't mind getting home before midnight". Pathetic.

Not too impressed with those footie mad people..last night there were a load of them marching through my usually quiet street, accompanied by loads of Police Vans...thats what you get for living close to the Arena and the U Bahn I guess.. mad.gif

Seems like the fans were in riot mode last night. If I heard correctly, they were fighting on the Ubahn platforms and busted two Ubahn windows out.

Totally agree!!! The quality on show from FCB was woeful for all their alleged "star quality". Give me 10 grand a week and I can pass the ball to the touchline (or opponent) instead of my team-mate or miss the goal by a country mile while shooting. I offer better value for money!
You'd hope as professionals they'd be ashamed... NAH!!! Not a bit of it! Take the money and screw the fans. One wonders how embarrassing it would have been had they qualified for the Champions League...

Though I'm on the red side of the Munich divide, it was bad luck for the Lowen (1860). They deserved better even IF they couldn't finish for toffee!

All these experts who never played a single match themselves rolleyes.gif ...

The derbies are always the most hardest matches for the big fish in there, cause (as everyone could actually witness last night) the small team like 60 is gonna fight as fierce as if their lives were depending on the outcome. They had only 2 or 3 shots on the goal, with only one worth to call a chance.

They would have deserved way more cards than these two yellow and the two yellow/red, i.e. when Lucio was fouled inside the penalty box, or Altintop was chopped of his feet with the ball away about 10meters (red card usually!), or Podolski, who was fouled also after the ball was gone, from behind with no chance for the defender of playing the ball

The second yellow against Toni was a joke and the red card against Hoffmann was well deserved, since that was a direct action (think FA calls it violent conduct) against another player - Ribery did fall theatrical, but Hoffmann would have received a card after the match anyhow, that's standard procedure by DFB these days.

The penalty (wasn't in the stadium but watched it on the telly) was on the penalty box line which is part of the box - the guy started sliding into Ribery before th box, but what actually counts is the moment the player is brought off his feet or being blocked by the defender (without the defender in possession of the all) to reach the ball - therefore perfectly legal penalty.

To have the penalty repeated though was another joke, even though the rule states that before ball is actually kicked no player is allowed inside the box, but no referee actually does that, since nearly every penalty in professional leagues (even at WC or EC) would have to be repeated.

The underdog will always be the one with the sympathies on his side, and the young 60 players displayed a respectable performance of stamina, dedication and willpower, but they lacked to get even close to finish and this time 60 had the so often quoted "Bayern Dussel" on their side.

Cup matches... always interesting!

Experts indeed... And i always though one had to be fouled inside the box for it to be deemed a penalty.
XabiAlonso
Yes, I have heard several claims that "on the line is in the penalty area". Curiously, I could not find anything in the laws of the game which confirms this view.
HelterSkelter
Well, it's simple pure logic - if the line wouldn't be part of the penalty box the touch line wouldn't be part of the pitch, hence a ball which touches the touch line would be out of play and also by just touching the goal line you could score. (law 9+10 actually state when a ball is inside play and outside play, same applies to any other line on the pitch). wink.gif
Bilko
Simply put, why all the IF this and IF thats. if it's inside the box it's a pen. If it's on the line its not.
HelterSkelter
Nope - might be your rule, but all the lines marking a certain area do belong to the area... touch-line & pitch, goal-line & penalty box, penalty-box-line & penalty box... easy.

The stadium has been cleaned and exorcized.
I kid you not, before the 1860 amateurs played against Hessen Kassel last Saturday ordinated priest Sebastian Rass from St. Peter's in Wörth blessed the stadium again, thus doing away with the evil spirits.
