Last minute tickets for theatre and concerts

Hey all,

Just wondering if anybody knew or had any experience of getting discount tickets for the theatre in Germany when buying them at the box office about half an hour before the performance starts? Or on the same day?

I know they do this in UK and also experienced it in Milan. Specifically, I am looking to go to a opera this weekend at the Dortmund opera house and so far, there are still many seats available.

Yes, it's cheaper. But there's no guarantee if you'll get a ticket, and even if you do, there's no guarantee if you'll get a seat. I once went to the Berlin Philharmonic because Zubin Mehta was conducting, stood in line for about half an hour and got my cheap ticket, but the Konzertsaal was so full that I had to stand or sit on the stairs.
