DJMunich
What's up people... 25 year old guy moving to Munich in 2 weeks from Los Angeles... Just moving to live with my dad for a year or so (he lives full-time in Munich).

I hardly know anyone in Munich since I haven't lived there since I was 8 years old... so I'll probably be showing up to a meetup first chance I get.

Just wanted to say hello! cool.gif
mix_twix
hey DJMunich smile.gif

welcome to Munich! We meet fridays and saturdays every week so when you get here there's sure to be something going on. Looking forawrd to meeting you

Twix
laurenrenee
the bavarian and i have to pick up our new couch tonight, but if we get back from dachau at a reasonable hour, count me in! not sure how much drinking i will actually do, but i think i need to see you guys! just don't let me break my lip open on any walls this time... dry.gif
RebellionLies
No pre-Max and Moritz drinks then?
cabbagefairy
Why would ya? Drinks are cheap there.
mix_twix
Well there's no way I'm gonna be able to make it out before 10 tonight. Have a hellova lot of stuff to do! It's cheaper to get into the club before 11:30 so I'm think start heading there about 10:30 to beat / join the queues?

Could I call one of you guys about 10 when I head out? I'll come meet you, have a swift one and head on down to dance my cares away smile.gif

By the way, guys should probably wear shirts, jeans, shoes tonight since it looks clubby from the photos smile.gif

So will there be anyone at a bar I can meet later on?
RebellionLies

Why would ya? Drinks are cheap there.

Drinks are cheap at NaGa and that didn't prevent us doing pre-drinkies then.

And they only have Becks there as a beer option. Fail.
RebellionLies
For the students amongst us, it's also the same price regardless of whether you get there before 11.30 or after.
jennywren
hey all
were going to be doing pre drinks at cohibar at herzog-rudolf str next to maximillian strasse (jeremy's choice for his last weekend). from 8 onwards, and its not far from max & moritz!
will anyone else be there?
j+j (a+p)
themusicalguy
I'll join you for some pre-drinks, wanna pick me up at Rosenheimer since I'm on your way JJ?
cabbagefairy
Haha I can't go to cohibar due to previous incidents that may get me in trouble if recognized...I suggest becky doesn't either if she reads this tongue.gif
Wombat
yes yes yes for cohibar. is it 8 or 9? (and is it real time or Clare time?)
jayney
9pm real time! biggrin.gif
Wombat
its a deal, its a steal, its the sale of the fucking century!!!
kid_loves_rock
Hello People

Student here whose German is restricted to Biite, Danke and Schize..

Would love to get to know some people and join you guys for a drink or 3 ( which seems to be an oft-repeated phrase here)

Cheers.

Awesome - for sure!

Very cool - I'll get back on here once I've got some german ground under my feet (which will be in about 2 weeks).

Looking forward to meeting some english speaking people in Munich... that'll be an interesting change - for sure.

See ya wink.gif

Well as you all know: the doormen were blatantly racist.
This is the letter I wrote to them. Whatev. Please check up the club as much as you can before you go next time.

Dear Sirs.
I regret to inform you that your doorstaff turned me away today because I am "different". They made quite a show of making me exit the line and picking the less well dressed people behind me who they thought were not "different"

Apparently, even when well dressed, professional individuals of Indian descent are simply not welcome because they are classed as "different"

I will be following up with the proper authorities and lodging a complaint with your managers. Whether that complaint ever reaches your ears is not important to me rather; it is more important that you understand that people are simply people and restricting blatantly on the heritage someone has, has its place prior to the 19th century.

Yours sincerely,
...
liutaia
Where was that place? what was the name? I'd really like to write them a letter too. all that getting lost, wasted!

Max und Moritz
themusicalguy
I still don't understand this whole thing, especially in Germany. Given the history books you would expect that they'd want to encourage as much racial diversity as possible. Apparently some lessons seem to have gone unlearned!
cabbagefairy
Almost all the bigger dance clubs have racist door policies. Q club, M-park, Rock studio and now Max and Moritz. I totally agree with themusicalguy though, you really would think they wouldn't want to keep up the racist image Germany once had.
mix_twix
ah man Element. So sorry. I completely agree with musical and cabbage about this- it makes no sense whatsoever. I though the time we went to Rockstudio it was just some "unique" bouncers on a powertrip. Seems not. Ok, I guess we'll make a point not to go back there again...

It really beggars belief that they can even get away with that in this day and age. I think I was talking to Musicalguy about this when we went to M-Park. I can't think of this ever happening in the UK. The bouncers would surely be fired and I imagine the club would come under scruntiny from the police too.

You have to bear in mind though that the doorstaff are probably fulfilling the request of the managment as opposed to exercizing their own opinions. Even still, this doesn't excuse it in anyway.

Hmmmmmm, maybe we should start a thread about this in "Life in Munich"? Experiences, places that employ this policy etc. etc. just to forewarn people that might get turned away for being "different" as they so eloquently put it mad.gif

ladytron
i just finished reading the topic about max and moritz's racist door policies. i am brazilian so obviously such places are not an option for me. i am really interested in joining you in one of those meet ups, is there any other place we can think of? maybe the atomic cafe? i've never been there but i heard it is great, is it true?

i am new to TT so i'm not sure this subject is supposed to be talked here, please correct me if i am wrong.
Element2082
Hi all
A couple of points:

1) I'm pretty sure the management asks the doormen to "screen".
I'm trying to look for the body that oversees clubs in Munich. There's got to be one.

2) It didn't bother me as much as people think it did. Maybe because often, this is only the tip of the iceberg that you will never experience.

3) On the other hand it would be nice not to go to those particular clubs, at the very least when I or some other "different" are along for the ride.

Thanks ( a bit of help with 1. would be great)

PS: Cord is sometimes nicer than Atomic. Plays some cool music on the weekends.

GabIng
Just a question.
Does someone who wants to join you have to be student OR intern , AND under 25?
Cause if the last AND is valid i lost my chance since March ( of this year tongue.gif ).
Unfortunately I did not know of this thread before my B-day.
It would be interesting to visit some new places with you guys sometime...
cabbagefairy
I was thinking q-club possibly but as it seems you all are doing your own thing I shall be getting rowdy on my lonesome.
GabIng
Q club...Never been there.
Concerning clubs i am a follower as i m not such a great dancer but i m in for the drinks.
So count me if there is going to be something.
firefly86

No offense mate, but you really are wasting your time unless you have some addition people or actual proof to back up your claim. This really is one of those one-man-against-the-world type struggles. I used to work at a club before and my brother was the head bouncer and from experience, regardless who's screening rule that was, anybody questioned will dismiss it completely or blame it on you (i.e. they'll say that you were probably being rowdy, etc. and that you're just complaining out of spite).

*shrug*
Element2082
Is this thread working anymore?

Let's organise something for the long weekend

Wilson...sigh...old topic but I wasn't alone.
