You should be able to find information here.

How did you do taxes for the last 5 years. They won't accept them without a SSN. Good luck getting one ASAP, it generally takes 3-6 months for it to arrive.
PES
It is just her child without a SSN. I assume they have one.

kids have to have a SSN too or else you cannot file. They changed the law a few years ago, you can no longer write "Applied for" on a tax return.

I have seen that site just today&printed out what I need to write down all information about me & my husband
we both have ssn, of course. I don't work. my husband does taxes usually. but it was first time , when I went to tax office.
so my question is, is anyone knows, if we can apply on the base here in Stuttgart?
is here anybody, who has child .,born not in US? how did u got ssn for ur kid?
Nicole
My kids were born overseas and we had to go through ssa.gov to get them. You should have a copy of last years tax return, see which ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) or SSN your husband used for the child last year.
Your only choice otherwise is to apply for one through the regular channels.

Unless you or your husband are Active duty military or Contractors with ID cards, you can not use the tax/legal office on base.
You must go thru ssa.gov or contact your local US Consulate for more info.

If you do have an ID card, you can go to DEERS but they'll just give you the form that you can download from the Internet. It takes 3-6 months usually. Is the child your Husbands daughter?? If not that may make things even more complicated. Usually you apply for the SSN at the same time as the Report of Birth abroad. That's what I did anyway.

although we are British, my son was born in USA and has a US passport. We applied for his SSN the year before last (I think) when he was 17 or so. Didn't know he should have had one since he was 12. We went to the consulate here in Munich and it took nowhere near 3 months to come through, 2 at most. We did have to have proof of all our places of residence since 1990 as he has not lived in the States since he was 15 months old! Other than that it wasn't too difficult. (We of course have never had to file income tax for US since we left)

I'll try to call tomorrow to American Consulate in Frankfurt

Send them directly to SSA via postal mail. DEERS is for Military/dependents only. Hince the "D" meaning Defense. (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System)
