The German - Irish - Society is proud to present the second
Green Farm Festival which will run over the weekend June 20-22, 2008. The festival takes place on an idyllic organic farm in Hallbergmoos, very near Munich and right next to the airport.
Moving forward from the success of last year's festival, the organisers have increased the number of bands from Germany, Ireland and Austria who are taking part, covering the wide spectrum of Irish music played by German and Irish bands bands in Germany as well as traditional German folk music played by native German bands and, of course, guest artists from Ireland.
The list of bands/soloists/acts/dance groups appearing at the festival on five stages includes to date:
Martin Quinn, Angelina Carberry and Alan Burke * Fraunhofer Saitenmusik * Cara * Tailteann * Iontach * Deitsch * Mark'n'Simon * Summerstorm * Solid Ground * Ceol * The Rye * Munich Céilí Band * Rince Tir na nÓg * Matching Ties * Celtic Cowboys * Moonshine * AnamcorA * Banshee * Sequel * Süddeutsche Leier Orchester * Pipeline * Paddy Whack * Brian Flynn * deSelby * Emerald Dancers * Burning Biscuit Band * ADAS * Tiny * Irish Steirisch * Get Wet * Huckleberry Five * Roland Hefter * Paul Daly Band * Greensleeves * Declan Rynne * Ray O'Sullivan
The festival will also have two days of sporting events. The Munich Caledonians and The Munich Scottish Association will look after the „Highland Games“ while the Munich Colmcilles GAA Club will present Irish Hurling and foorball. Everyone is invited to take part in all of the games.
Among other facilities the festival offers free on-site camping and parking, a shuttle bus service from the local train station to the festival site, beer tents, sessions, workshops, organised catering, an Irish market, bathing in the on site lake, kids' playground and an open stage for visiting musicians.

Is there any sort of (rough) program of events?
According to the website the shuttle bus picks up from
S8 Halbergmoos.
And the farm can be found on Google maps here:

Is there any sort of (rough) program of events?
The time schedule for events has not yet been finalised as new bands are signing up continuously.
The final programme will be released in early June together with the festival brochure.
Keep checking the website which will have the most up-to-date information.

There's a spargel fest there this weekend BTW. Not that interested in Spargel myself, but it is always a bit of fun buying vegetables by the wheelbarrow load, and of course, getting lightly to moderately drunk and having a bite to eat. I'm a big fan of the Hausler Hof.

I actually live in Hallbergmoos (Goldach) but have never been to the Hausler Hof. Spargel fest this weekend? May have to check it out. I am a fan of the big white spargel over here (however phallic it may appear).
Wouldn't mind meeting other English speaking people, if you're going.

Oh! Anyone going to be going tomorrow (weather permitting)? If the mini-bugs are up for it I would like to check it out (though we love the green spargel, can't stand the white stuff).
Is there anything for kids to do there at the Festival? There is nothing on the flyer or on the website thats says anything about kids activities. Even last years pictures don't give a clue. My little ones will not sit and watch bands for very long.
It's a shame as I wanted to come along.

aren´t there Highland Games on the saturday?
that´s when we´re planning to head down with a bunch of kids then.

Its a shame no one though to put any of that in the broschure. Or on the website. Maybe people with kids
might read this thread.
And we know what Highland games are. We saw the strong men in the pictures. How are kids going to get involved with that?
I suspect the person responsible for the publication material does not have kids.

doesn´t it say ´Kinderspielplatz´& ´Badeweiher´on the brochure?
No. I got the 12 page broschure from
Kilians. The focus was on the bands and the organisations supporting the event. And a stage programme in the middle.
´Badeweiher´? Is that lake in the photgraphs suitable for swimming? If so, that would have been great publicity.

The link to
The Hausler Hof is in the brochure and details all the facilities - no I don't have kids and the more comments on TT then the more bumps the Festival thread gets.
I had a dog but he died.
Do check the leaflet which has been placed on this thread. It's the first post on the thread.
See you there.

@Mr G`Baldi,
Erm,, will have father (Terry) with an "unlicenced Banjo" in tow this wk-end, just what is the official recomended amount of weight required to sink aforementioned banjo article to a safe depth in that convenient onsite lake?
Additionally are there any pre fest booking arrangements in respect of camping over or is it just turn up and pitch?

Better still: have the banjo doctored with "substance" and it won't be allowed past the sniffer dogs (mandatory these days at German festivals) at the festival gate.
Just turn up and pitch. There are two camping sites - The "Free Love" site and the "Public" site.
Have fun!

@Mr G`Baldi
fortunately the "Old Man" being a product of the Beardy Weirdy 1960s he already comes fully "pre-impregnated" with erm,, "substance"? May I suggest in addition to the usual "No guns, flick-knives and knuckledusters" sign at the entrance, a clearly displayed "no unlicenced banjos" poster?

I, better half, and stepson hope to make an appearance. Probably not going to camp however.
Anyone want to meet up for a beer somewhere there on Saturday?
If so we need to fix a meeting point where there are some beer tables. I've not been before, does anyone know a good landmark that will be easy to find?
crusoe
Jun 20 2008, 6:44 am
There is a group of beer tables in front of the main hall (barn/Stadl) which everyone has to pass at some time or other. Bring a flag or other visible object (inflatable leprechaun etc.) These may be the best for you because they're not directly in front of a stage.

Corcaigh
Jun 20 2008, 9:18 am
There are loads of grassy spaces (over by games area) and a grassy area all around the lake where you can of course picnic. There wasn't an actual designated picnic area last year so I doubt there'll be one this year...

Finally meeting the other half! Yay!
Well I just called the Häusler Hof to ask if that shuttle goes as long as the SBahn goes and how to recognize it -- is it an
MVV bus (doesn't look like it from the MVV website), is it an RVO bus, is it their private bus or what... and nobody's home. On Google maps it sure
doesn't look like it'd be 20 minutes from that Sbahn out to the place...?

Jun 20 2008, 1:24 pm
Last year, after getting off the S-Bahn there was a phone number to ring for the shuttle bus posted on a lamp post but no-one answered...then a mini-bus just pulled up and shuttled us off to the Häusler Hof...only a 5 min ride as far as I can remember.
I'll be heading there tomorrow afternoon with some other TTers so will no doubt bump into some familiar faces...looking forward to the Irish dancing at 15.00...was great last year. Might even catch the end of the Highland games too.
Ah, lovely, just the info I needed. I did leave my number on the Hof's answering machine but haven't heard back from them. Tja. I might have my bike on the SBahn anyway, for those last 3.5 kilometers. Not about to ride the 35 kilometers home though. Last S8 into town from Hallbergmoos on a Friday night is at 1:49.

And the shuttle will run until nobody more wants to take it. Tomorrow they should have two minivans (white with the Hausler Hof logo on them) and an actual bus (don't know what color) running as the weather's supposed to be gorgeous -- bring sunscreen! Saw some fabulous acts tonight,
Deitsch and the
Fraunhofer Saitenmusik being my favorites. The Emerald Dancers were a big hit with the kids. The lake does looks swimmable and we did see someone swimming in it too, this at about 8pm this evening. People had brought tents for an overnight at the lake on the lawn -- that's free btw.
Oh and there's malt vinegar for sale as well as Irish Soda Bread mix and Cadbury Flake and Crunchie and Irish Stew and cider and Beamish stout and then all the regular food you get at a fair here like those chocolate-covered strawberries on sticks. Tomorrow also: Tim's pies. Don't eat all of them.

We also went last night and had a great time. The kids, 3 & 5, enjoyed running around the fields and watching the dancers. There is a small playground - swings & a slide.

What a scorcher of a day! (and I have the sunburnt legs to prove it). We watched the Highland games...a friend participated and even won a medal! Tossing of the caber was the best bit. The Irish dancing was great as usual, especially the wee fella...fantastic he is. I was so happy to get my peppersteak pie again too...Tim's pies are delicious. A great atmosphere and something for all age groups...I was envying those swimming in the lake as I left all hot and bothered...
Still on today so head on out and enjoy the craic!

we also had a lot of fun yesterday (and got sunburnt too MG!)
the pies were yummy, and we also bought some choccy to take home.
music was great (you know who you are) and the games were excellent. our friend´s kids had fun participating in the kids´games, they were proud of their medals! the dancing was excellent, well done to all involved.
all in all, it was very well organized, there was enough to keep the kids occupied (bouncy castle, playground, & carousel) and a wide choice of bars and food stalls to keep everyone happy.
we would have loved an ice cream though as it was so hot!

Very much enjoyed the music comedy duo
Mark and Simon and then relaxed by the lake with cider and pies while the kids swam...

Great summer event. I just thought more people should've been there - I guess advertising the event a little more wouldn't go astray. Also the signposting was lacking a bit too as my satnav got a bit confused getting there (probably coz of a diversion due to a blocked road). Otherwise full marks to the organisers. Class location, great value with so much live music on offer - and the cider was flowing of course... Will deffo be there next year!

Sounds like everyone had a good time. St Patrick was still there sitting under a tree when we went over this morning to pick up the rest of our stuff. Great to see Gen and Punchbear (did you have a nice dance, dear?), in fact great to hear Punchbear too! People who took pics pleaseplease post them in the gallery as I missed quite a lot of the craic due to having stuff to do. Riri and exquitius did a brilliant job, yez are stars! Sorry about the weather being too hot folks, but do consider what the alternatives might have been... There was an ice cream stand but it was a bit hidden. Tim the Pieman is God.

Was there most the day Sunday and twas a lot of fun. Spent most of the time under a tree by the pond listening to the music while my son swam and swam to beat the heat (as I did too from time to time). My son was not particularly happy with the limited ice cream/pop sickle selection, but mama and papa were just fine with the large chunks of ice cooling our cider.
