hey, i just spent a normal evening in the local bar the outland.

to be honest i really recommend people to consider twice about this bar. the guy behind the bar in a pink shirt, i believe to be the owner, just lost it tonight for no reason.

hey i mean you are a good paying customer and this guy gets aggressive from behind the bar and hits you for really nothing.

has anyone else experienced problems within this bar?

there are many alternative bars to go to for expats and i would recommend to consider these first before visiting the outland.

additionally, if you were there tonight and saw this please drop me a message as it would be nice to hear your views.

Hi Jiml,
I popped my head in at about 11:30'ish and saw a newish guy behind the bar with one of the normal waitress's and the owner. (yes in a pink golf shirt)
I didn't even stay for a beer so I can't comment on what happened tonite. But I know some of the peops who work there and have never had a bad time there. The owner might not be someone to write home about, but the place is usually a stand-up joint.
Some more details about what exactly transpired tonite would be nice.
I am a little dismayed about what you are saying happended tonite, so I would like to hear the whole story.
jiml
Hey, when the owner gets so stressed out with someone turning the lightbulb to go out as other people have done round the bar and then looses it infront of everyone making himself look a right fool, but then to use physical abuse to argue his point is not the right way to serve good paying customers. Should be a little careful on hitting people as they can take this further legally. Hey as for all the other bar tenders they are great its just a pity about the owner...
bluedave
No comment.
jiml
heard you had problems too blue dave
bluedave
Not just me my friend. Libel is a powerful thing.
jiml
not seen you for a long time in this bar, where do you go drinking these days
Moonboot
did he really hit you?
YorkshireLad6
Surely, all this is simply reinforcing the authenticity of an good Australian bar? What else would you expect?
orb
So you're the bloke that got hit. Was there to witness the incident. I can't believe that the guy in pink crack just because of a light bulb. worse of all, is he really the owner?? he was going ballistic and shouting. hey that's not the way to treat customers. you're right, take your money to somewhere else no customers deserve such treatment.
Editor Bob
Sounds like some quality entertainment. Sorry I missed it.
sheffieldcooljules
If a Oz guy hit me, then i would lay the twat out...without a doubt, im English, and they hate us (im not over friendly of them too, but thats normal for how we feel about each other)

If a skippy throws his weight about then no one should stand for that, even if its his bar..

Theres a oz bar in my city, i avoid it unless my mates want to go, all the staff are oz, they cant make a beer...shit music...and all they do is complain about the weather.
sluzup
He's English, isn't he?
Johnny English
Is it the bloke with the really obvious died black hair?
Mook32
Yeah, the guy that was in the pink is the owner
bluedave
Yep on both.

But i am obviously biased too.
parnell
Go on Dave , lets hear your yarn.
bluedave
lol parny, you already know my yarn on this.
parnell
fair enuff... lookin forward to seein u on Paddys weekend for the Irl vs Eng match!
Keydeck
He was acting like a twat five years ago. Not surprised nothing's changed.
sickboy
was just having a read of this, I watched England France there on Saturday and he was a bit miserable at people unscewing the lights at the bar, but it wasn't so bad, however, I think he was wearing the same pink shirt on Saturday night as well ... yuk!
Moonboot
we were there Saturday night and the owner seemed to be getting a bit cross as all down one side of the bar folk were unscrewing the lightbulbs, and down the end of the bar we saw someone hanging paper napkins off the light. we were outside when the scuffle happened so dunno what exactly started it off.

the owner & staff are always fine with us though and it's still the best place to watch the footy & rugby as far as we're concerned.
the planned extension will make it even better hopefully as it was jammers on Saturday night.
SpiderPig
Isnt there some Health and safety issues here?

Surely he is within his rights to get pissed off at folk messing with Live electrical appliances?

I thought a bar is somewhere you pay to drink and eat.. not a place where you dick about with the fixtures and fittings!
crainer
I don't know why they don't just get rid of those bloody lights anyway - they hang right at head level and I've watched people unscrew the light bulbs half a turn before just to keep from being blinded.. now that would be an investment. it's just a pity an otherwise nice pub is run by such a tempramental !$%^ - it's amazing he can find any staff, if he treats them like the customers.
Moonboot
yep those lights are annoying, here's hoping they go with the refurbishment!

Exactly...how do you reckon you'ld be treated if you went into a nightclub, reached over the DJ and turned the music down coz it's too loud? Pretty sure the bouncer's wouldn't be too nice about it (especially, as I have heard, you'd been warned multiple times to stop doing it).

Seems like this is another "I'm drunk, pissed off, so i'm gonna write an derisive comment about a bar/person as soon as I get home from the pub, even though I was too pissed to realise that I was probably being the wanker" kind of post.
bluedave
I think there's a bit of a diff between getting a bollocking and getting hit though isn't there?

Those lights have been turned off by the clentele for years.
SpiderPig
No matter how long the punters have been doing this for.. Its not their property.. they have no rights to interfere!
Pas
Then shouldn't he get the police in rather than hit somebody? Does he really have the right to hit them?
Mrs Peel
In balance, I've only ever had nice friendly service and chats from the bar staff - the family and the regular staff.
Mind you, I don't unscrew light bulbs so don't know about the response I'd get if I did.

Saying that, I definitely don't condone someone getting hit for it either.
SpiderPig
I reckon that it wasnt a punch..

I would suggest that it was a push on the shoulder along with the comment.. "Will you stop fucking about with the lights"

I also reckon that the Original poster will see things differently now he is sober!

No.. He certainly dosent have the right to "Hit" anyone.. and lets not be the Jugde, Jury and executioner.. Lets wait for the owners side of the story.
Pas
And as ever the truth is probably in between.
JerseyBoy
I was in Outland during the RWC last year, and I do distinctly remember the owner getting overly physical with a patron who brought his beer outside, when a simple "Please bring your beer back in the bar and drink it there." would have sufficed.
Moonboot
I think you need to be tough and firm if you're an (ex-pat?) bar owner.

re the kerfuffle, if it was just a burly shove with a firm 'get out of my pub for hanging napkins on the light fittings you turnip' then ok.
but if the OP was actually physically hit shouldn't he be talking to the fuzz?
JerseyBoy
It's fine to be rough when necessary. In this case the lad just simplemindedly (and a bit drunkenly) walked out the door with a beer in his hand to have a bit of air and a cig outside.
blowwavedave
Yeah well, we haven't heard back from Jim since his posts at 2am Sunday morning, so maybe he's realised that he's probably just blown things a little out of proportion
Pas
As a sponsor of TT surely he reads the site though? Any chance of the other point of view being put?

Maybe, but maybe he'd been asked previously to not do it...

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure he'll try and resolve this privately, instead of airing any personal grievances over the internet and start slandering people willy-nilly (like our illustrious thread starter)!

More likely he'll read it and complain about it and the post will be pulled, as happened with another similar posting regarding the curious management-style in another ex-pat drinking hole in Munich

maybe it used to be white and it's all the arsey punters' blood stains that meanwhile turned it pink in the wash!

Which given the number of people who've read this thread today wouldn't be the smartest route?

Looks like Editor Bob already pulled the page about Outland:

http://www.toytowngermany.com/wiki/Outland...alian_bar.htmll

Probably updating it to include the very latest information:

Australian bar in Haidhausen featuring extra bright spotlights and extra stroppy landlord (usually in pink shirt).
Moonboot
http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/outla...ralian_bar.html is still there though... blink.gif
Johnny English
In which case Editor Bob needs to update the fucked link here:

http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/business_directory.html

I would like to add, just for the sake of fairness, that whilst it is fun to be joining this witch hunt - I have had a drink there 2 or 3 times and never been punched by the staff. In fact from memory the staff have only ever served me cold beer and not asked me even once to "step outside sunshine" or ask if if was "looking for a bunch of fives" to go with the peanuts.

Likewise I have never felt the burning desire to dismantle their pub, and thus the status quo has been maintained.
mix_twix
Yeah- I've been to outland quite a few times and always found their bar staff to be really friendly (and speedy with the drinks!). That said, I don't think I've ever met "pink shirt man".
Malcolm Spudbury
The broken link in the business directory is fixed now.
Johnny English
Pink shirt man probably threatened EB that he would be swimming with the fishes unless that link was fixed pronto.
parnell
Pink shirt man or PSM... wait a minute... PSM ... "PMS" ??? dyes his hair in a ridiculous fashion? anyone get a look at his adam's apple? Think we're onto something here people.
