Clothes shops for a mother of the bride

Where to buy wedding outfits for mature women

I'm hoping someone is awake and can help me with a dilemma - my mother is currently visiting and last night suggested we go clothes shopping for her today. I'm completely unprepared, we both hate clothes shopping and I haven't a clue what shops to bring her to in Munich. The problem - she needs to find an outfit for my wedding and decided today would be a great opportunity to look.

So, any ideas where to go to find a smart, good quality outfit for a mother of the bride aged around 60ish who may need larger sizes? I'm thinking of going to Konen, Galeria Kaufhof but after that I'm at a loss sad.gif Neither of us are very patient shoppers, so i don't want to depress her by trawling through the streets of Munich without success. So much for mother-daughter bonding, we're going to kill each other!

EDIT: I find much of the clothes for older women a bit old-fashioned here, so something fresh or modern-looking and flattering would be great. Am I asking for too much?!

Ludwig Beck might be worth a whirl in their dress department, but I'm going to suggest Peter Hahn.
It's around the corner from Konen on Rindermarkt, they sell nothing that will make her look like mutton, stock some larger sizes and are probably what you are looking for - something stylish, classic, appropriate.
Yes, they aren't the most blingtastic clothes, but your mum probably just wants to feel great and look good in the photos.

Basler might also be worth a look, they are on the Theatrinerstr., if money is no object: Escada. One of the few designer brands that really do make a range of sizes and caters for this market.

Oh thank you so much Katrina! We'll definitely start there then, after a very leisurly breakfast putting it off as long as possible.

Peter Hahn also does great work shirts for those who need to dress more conservatively for work - let us know how you got on!

Ok my Mum has just left and I'm finally chilling out after a hectic weekend. We got on brilliantly with the shopping trip on Saturday, she found a lovely outfit and feels much more positive and confident about herself now.

We started in Konen and she was very happy with the selection (Gerry Weber, Basler etc.). Some of the clothing was old-fashioned, but other things were lovely - depending on your taste I suppose. She ended up getting a Gerry Weber outfit - 1 jacket, 2 skirts, 1 blouse and 2 scarves, all co-ordinated and you can put them together to form different outfits. She was absolutely thilled with herself and delighted at the prices, the same brands would be more expensive in Ireland. Also with the German sizes, she was a size smaller than she usually takes - great for her self-confidence! So she was sorted in the very 1st shop, we never even made it to Peter Hahn.

She was so happy with the clothes shopping in Munich that she's planning to return later in the year on her own, just to go clothes shopping. This is amazing for her! So it was an overwhelming success and we'll be checking out the other shops the next time she's over. Thanks again for your tips Katrina, it was good to have a few places lined up. For her, the highlight of the weekend was in finding such a nice outift, so it made my weekend easier too smile.gif
