Hi

I am new to Germany (3 weeks) and have managed to negotiate most of the car insurance mine field including getting my no claims discount to apply here. However now that I have insurance I am concerned that I may not have selected the correct option. I have chosen Teilkasko instead of Vollkasko as recommended in some of the previous posts in relation to used cars. But now that my policy is here I am struggling to understand what my coverage includes. Does Teilkasko equate to UK Third Party? It looks like it covers quite a lot more than this. I understand that this will vary by insurer but some general feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks

third party insurance is Haftpflicht. Teilkasko will be Haftpflicht plus things like fire, theft, collision with wild animals, hail damage etc and a few other things like glass perhaps. Each policy is slightly different so you have to read it through to know how you are covered.

If you are familiar with US auto insurance Teilkasko includes liability and comprehensive coverages, while Vollkasko adds in collision coverage (i.e., non-animal-caused crashes).
