According to an article in the Süddeutsche Zeitung last week (see: Zwei Skilifte für München) there plans to build a ski slope on the Fröttmaninger Müllberg. This is the 75m high artificial hill next to the Allianz Arena, the one that is made of waste and has a wind turbine on top.

Apparently the ski slope will include a temporary lift system, snowmakers, and floodlights. It will open in January 2007 for a three week trial period. If the trial is successful the city council could be pursuaded to allow the slope to operate for longer.

This is freaking excellent news. I've looked at this slope a number of times and thought it would be skiable, however the one in Olympia park would probably be better cause of its location but you can't complain. Sounds like its going to be open at night - I will definitely get down there in the week after work.

Lets just hope it gets cold sometime in Winter and it snows. Not looking good so far, they should have tried this last year.

True. The way this winter's going, they'd be better off building some hiking trails!
